THE FIRST DAY BACK AT SCHOOL and farren could not care less

THE FIRST DAY BACK AT SCHOOL and farren could not care less. she had her face shoved into a pillow and had no motivation to remove it any time soon. nothing could move her from this very comfortable position that she was currently in.

"hey wood, get your arse out of bed or you're going to miss breakfast," parvati patil laughed, throwing her own pillow at farren.

"yeah, come on farren," lise rivers cooed from the bed next to her.

farren turned over and noticed that both of the girls were currently in their gryffindor uniforms. she sighed, throwing her arms out. she didn't want this next school year to start. she didn't want there to be only one year left of her time at hogwarts.

"farren, come on," hermione granger said from across the dormitory. "i want to head down."

"you know you can go by yourself, hermione," farren grinned, sitting on the edge of her bed. hermione gave her a knowingly look as she shook her head.

"just get ready," hermione said, disappearing out of their dormitory.

"crazy, that one," lavender brown said. farren looked over to her and saw that she was slightly grinning. lavender glanced over to farren and raised her eyebrows, causing farren to giggle.

minutes later, farren was standing in front of the mirror in her robes. she personally thought the scarlet made her skin look paler than it already was. she sighed, dabbing on the tiniest bit of red lipstick.

"beautiful!" lise said, her tiny body appearing next to farren's. "i wish i looked like you."

"lise, you are gorgeous," farren corrected her, turning to face her. lise was shorter than her, but her fiery personality made up for that. she had orange hair and blue eyes, with freckles dabbled across her face.

"thanks farren," lise grinned, grabbing her hand. "come on, hermione's waiting."

"she full well could have just went on without us, ron and harry are probably already there," farren said, pretending to be flustered. lise just stood there, a small smile on her face.

farren turned, double checking to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything for the first day of classes. surely enough, her wand was sitting lifeless on her bed.

her wand was eleven inches long and was made of applewood with a core of unicorn hair. when ollivander had discovered that this was farren's wand to be, he had smiled gently and told her that she would be a witch with only the purest intentions.

so far, farren had proven that statement true.

she snatched up her wand and slid it into her sleeve. she nodded at lise, who opened the door and the two of them disappeared into the common room.

hermione was standing against the table in the corner of the room. she had her arms crossed and was wearing a scowl, until she noticed farren and lise.

"ready?" hermione asked, not waiting for an answer.

"yes ma'am," farren said quietly so that only lise could hear her. lise giggled, following suit.

once the three were seated next to harry potter and ron weasley, hermione seemed to relax. the two of them had already started to eat and farren quickly joined in.

"where's ginny?" hermione questioned ron, who looked at her absentmindedly.

"with dean, probably," ron groaned, wiping his mouth with his napkin. "she's been with him ever since we stepped foot onto the grounds."

harry seemed to tense up and hermione gave a short sigh. farren stared at her plate, not wanting to get involved in an argument.

as much as she loved the weasley family, she wasn't the biggest fan of ginny weasley. it wasn't anything she had done personally, but the two were the same position in quidditch and farren got almost not recognition whenever gryffindor won a game. oliver, her brother, would write to her constantly to talk about the team and plays and what he could do to help. she always swore that he had nothing better to do, even though he had a boyfriend and was on an actual professional quidditch team.

"farren," harry said suddenly, pulling her out of her daze. "ready for tryouts this week?"

"yessir captain potter," farren saluted, causing the small group to erupt into laughter.

"ron's trying out again this year," harry continued. farren tried to contain herself and not show any sign of reaction, but she was stunned. last year, ron had been able to pluck up enough courage and win them the house cup, but she had doubts that he would be able to do it again.

she glanced over to ron, who hadn't noticed her slight change of face. good, she had succeeded.

"i was thinking about it all summer," ron sheepishly said, not exactly making eye contact with any of his friends. it seemed as though he was incredibly nervous about what was going to happen.

"good for you," hermione said, giving him a nod of appreciation.

"thanks," ron said, shoving his mouth full of food afterwards.

"i think you make a great keeper," lise piped up after setting her teacup down. farren smiled to herself. she knew that lise had always had bit of a crush on ron ever since they become friends their second year. farren thought it was stupid that she had never done anything about it, but lise would not let her say anything to him.

"thanks lise," ron said and farren could tell the comment meant a lot to him. he seemed a little more at ease all the way through breakfast after lise had said something.

"ginny really skipped out on breakfast today," hermione observed on their way to class. "dean must be keeping—"

"don't finish your sentence," ron said, glaring at the brunette. farren noticed that harry also seemed to tense up again with hermione's observation. did harry...?

"ron, she can snog whomever she wants to," hermione said, a warning tone appearing in her voice. "she's not a baby anymore."

"she's my little sister," ron shot back, crossing his arms. "she needs to be eating a balanced breakfast."

farren chuckled, her head bobbing back and forth. "yeah, that's what's making you so upset," she said in between laughing fits. ron turned to her and shook his head in disappointment.

"you're always on my side, what happened?" ron questioned. farren shrugged her shoulders, not having an answer for the boy. she knew deep down that ron was just being protective, oliver used to do the same thing when he was at hogwarts.

"alright, let's forget about this," harry said, physically stepping in between ron and farren. "let's just try and not get murdered by snape this year."

"i still cannot believe he's the defense against the dark arts professor," hermione shuddered, wrapping her robe tighter around her tiny body.

"who in their right mind let that happen," farren added. as much as she didn't want to continue the class because of snape, it was one of her best subjects and she would be stupid if she dropped it.

"dumbledore," harry said, glaring at the rest of them. he hated when the rest of them, especially farren, questioned dumbledore's motives. she couldn't help it, sometimes he made really dumb decisions.

"i just can't wait for this upcoming quidditch season," farren said, completely changing the subject. "we're going to absolutely win the cup."

she saw harry and ron exchange nervous glances, but she decided to ignore it.
