I roll over feeling a heavy weighted presence next to me. I grab my phone checking the time. 9:30am. I sigh and carefully roll over to a sleeping Ron and poke him hard in the back. "Ron, wake up." No response. I keep poking him in the back before resolving to shaking him by the back of his shoulders. "Ron wake up!" He groaned and pushed me off his back.

"What is it?" He asked grumpily as he rolled over. I flick him in the forehead to which he huffed at and mumbled some tasteful insults at me. I roll my eyes and push him once more.

"Wake up time for work!" I say while getting out of bed. The cold air simultaneously sends goosebumps down my limbs as they crack. I shiver before opening the curtains for the sun to engulf the room and with light and warmth.

"VINNY!" Ron's head dived under the covers of the small old double we both had to share. "What the fuck is wrong with you dude!" He grumbled from under the covers. I took a deep breath while looking down to the jacaranda trees below the apartment complex. I pull my Nike shorts over my boxers and look back at the bed, I grab a top from the ground and throw it at the human lump that lay on my bed.

"Get up!" I yell before walking to the bathroom and having a shower. After I have a shower, I put on my work uniform, the consisted of black chinos, a dark green polo and doc Martens. I walk to the kitchen and put on the kettle and grab two mugs from the shelf. A very tired half naked Ron entered the kitchen rubbing his dark eyes. "Morning sleeping beauty." I say with a smile. He gave me a single dry laugh while giving me the finger.

"It's a bit hard to sleep with you turning every fucking minute while you mumble under your breath."

I blush embarrassed before turning to the cupboard to retrieve the coffee and honey. "If you hate it so much why don't you go back to your own home?" I say raising an eyebrow at him while putting coffee in both the cups. "I'm sure that Toni has forgiven you for whatever you did, you never mentioned what you did you know? You just showed up and put yourself to bed, am I just an address with food and a bed to you Ron?"

He laughed before taking a seat on the couch and wrapping himself in a blanket. "Of course not Vinny, Toni just get's really pissed off at all the small shit I do so it makes it hard for me to be home when he's going through something. I honestly don't know how to be there for him when he barely lets me know what's going on in his head or what's going on in general. It's like I'm not even there. I'm sorry I didn't tell you what happened and just made myself at home, that was selfish of me." He apologised before sniffing.

"Oh Ron," I walk over and give him a hug. "of course, you can over here whenever you need, you know that I'll always be here. You and Toni have to talk about this because it's becoming a problem and it's unhealthy on both of you. You two care a lot about each other but you need to communicate or it will never work."

He sighed and gave me a pat on the back. "I know. Thank you, Vinny. I really appreciate it."

I give him kiss on the forehead before heading back over to the kitchen and pouring the water into the mugs. "It'll be okay." I say and pat his back.

"Vincent, I need to you to send Milly on break, she's on register two."

I nod and make my way through the overly busy self serve space. Milly was sweating while lift a box of coke cans into a trolly for an old lady with kind brown eyes and short poorly dyed brown hair with her grey regrowth coming throw. Milly looked up to me and smiled.

"Are you here to save me, Vinny?" She asked while wiping her brow with her forearm and brush her thick brown locks away from her face.

"Yes, you have your lunch." I say while she grabs her drink bottle and I continue scanning the old lady's items. She brought twelve cans of cat food and three boxes of cat biscuits.
