GRACE:

Another day in lockdown as panic grips the nation

Another day of quarantine and utter isolation

Thank god I have a window, thank god I have a view

Across the street another window

And in that window is you

Day 21, you noticed me, playing the clarinet

Day 24, I sorta waved and that was how we met

Day 29, at 2 am, you were up too late

You poured some wine, I raised a glass like we were on a date

A really nice first date

You there, across the way, just above the classy coffee shop

I don't know your name

And I don't know who you are

But 60 feet has never felt so close

So close and yet so far

Day 32, you washed your hands, I made a cornish hen

Day 36, I sewed a mask, you washed your hands again

Day 43, we both ate lunch on windowsills that day

We felt the breeze and dreamed of France, a chic outdoor cafe

A tres bien cafe

You there, across the way, laughing as you play your air guitar

I don't know your name, and I don't know who you are

But 60 feet has never felt so close

So close and yet

So far I'm asymptomatic, except for starting some more projects

And a slightly distressing, unhealthy obsession with

Art supplies that I'll never get

Da-day 48, yeah that's today, I hope you see my face

I'm holding up a handmade sign that says "my name is Grace"

You're gone, of course you're gone

You there, across the way, just above the classy coffee shop

You won't know who I am

For safety, I'll keep it that way

But 60 feet has never felt so far

So close, and yet

So close and yet

(Crashing can be heard along with a jumble of curse words off stage

Grace rushes to hide the sign and tidy herself up.

A man appears.)

Welcome home, honey, how was your day?
