Do you think it's funny? Do you laugh in the dark to keep yourself from screaming? You can act like I don't exist. You can pretend you are normal, but at night, you know you hear me. I am every creeping shadow, I am every whispered threat. I am the rising panic when you know you can't escape. You may feel fine now, but you're never free. I am waiting, waiting in closet, waiting in the hall. You know I'm just waiting for you to trip and fall. I see the horror in your eyes as the ground closes in. I am your own death hunting you down. I am your destruction, I am your demise. You should know by now that you're never too young to die. But am I the one? Am I death itself? Oh no. You may wish. But I am something worse. Much worse. You can feel yourself cringe as I laugh. Icy tendrils of terror creep up your spine when I speak. Your actions are not your own anymore. I can take your mind. Can you hear me whisper in your ear? Insane. I can drive you mad. Here I come, you know you can't hide! The dark will never sheild you; I am the dark. You sink to the floor. So helpless. You hate it, don't you? You hate it when you can't move. Are you breathing? I don't think I hear your heart beat. I'm coming closer. Closer! You can see me slither from the shadows. Not dead, not alive. I am black like the soil beneath your grave. I drag along because I like to make you wait. Thinking is dangerous. I can take your mind. I have no eyes, nor do I need them. I can smell you. What am I? I don't have to tell you. You know, deep inside your soul. I am the prickle. I am the itch. I am the constant dread That creeps in tendrils to cover your heart. I am the panic, the breaking point, the desperate need to breathe! The longing to feel. You know you can't defeat me. You know I lie to you but you still beleive. You need air! Not yet. Not ever. I am one nightmare you will not wake from. I am Fear.
