Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Heartbreak, Confrontations, and Surprises.

I looked at Jasper for a few minutes, and suddenly I heard my self laughing. I was in fits of hysteria. "Well. I'm a ninja" his words kept repeating themselves in my mid. A part of me saw the serious expression on his face, and even as he said"What's so funny?", I ignored that part. The most insane part of me merely kept laughing. In the process, all I earned was an anxious Jasper waiting desperately for me to finish. I literally rolled on the floor laughing and upset the bottle of wine. In a jiffy, I saw red liquid spreading on the light purple carpet. "Oops, sorry!", I said between laughs. 

"Daphne, I'm serious."

This was the second time he had said my full name. It meant he had to be serious.

"Okay, okay I'm stopping.", I said, although the smile that forced it's way back on my lips didn't stop.

"No you aren't. I'm a ninja and it's no joke."

"And why are you telling me all this?" I could suddenly feel the heat rushing back in my face. Laughter time had gone, and anger was starting to prevail.

Jasper grew worried as he saw my anxious expression so abruptly.

"Because, you are my girlfriend."

"This is our seventh month Jasper."

"I know I should have told you this before, but-"

"But what, you needed time to trust me?"

"Daphne, please don't be mad. I was just..." he genuinely seemed at a loss of words.

"You were, what?" I cocked my eyebrow.

"Please try to understand, Daph. It has been really hard for me hiding all this from you for seven months."

"Yeah, no wonder I didn't even get a hint that my boyfriend was secretly a ninja." I began wondering again if he was joking, but the seriousness with which he spoke scared me.

"Yes, I know it's hard on you. It was tough for me, too. Trust me."

"I do Jasper. It's just that you didn't trust me enough, I guess."

"I did. I still do. That is exactly why you are the first person who knows about it. Except, of course, Nicki."

"Wow, now you were even hiding the fact that another girl knew something about you that I didn't?"

"Is it just me, or are you really jealous?" he teased.

My mouth dropped open.How could he? In just a few minutes, he had told me he was a ninja, and that another girl knew about it. On top, this was our seventh anniversary and he was teasing me?

"Oh, no Jasper, I'm not jealous a bit. Which girl would be to find out that her seven-month boyfriend hid things from her and shared them with another girl?"

"Hey! You are taking it the wrong way. Nicki is just-"

"I don't care if Nicki is 'just' a friend or a retard. I just want to be alone." I signaled him to leave.

"You are not angry, are you?" Suspicion seemed to drip from his mouth.

"I just want to be alone"I repeated firmly.

"Look, I'm sorry Daph I know I should have told you before. And believe me, Nicki is nothing to me." He saw that I was going to interrupt him and said,"No. I'm not letting you talk for a few seconds. Listen to me."

 Okay. So I didn't interrupt him this time. I did not even talk. All I did was walk over to the door and open it to make a way out for him.

He looked at me with confusion. Then, when I waved my hand in a gesture that asked him to leave, all the pieces fit in perfectly and he seemed to understand.
