Can you fix what's been broken?

Chapter ten Kolby

"She didn't believe me." I looked up.

"What do you mean she didn't believe you?" Samantha sat back and shook her head.

"She. Did. Not. Believe. ME." She laughed a little. I smiled.

"Well she needs too." I paused picking up my soda "I miss her." Samantha cocked her head to the side and smiled.

"I know you do. I know. I think she's just hurting. Literally." We both laughed.

Samantha knew that the volleyball was supposed to hit Jacob not Natalie. And that would be why I don't play. I don't have very good aim... obviously. I mean I just cannot stand that guy. I don't really know why... oh wait yes I do. He broke Natalie's heart and then has the nerve to tell her that he's changed and he still loves her? And she falls for it? I mean come on now. I've known Natalie and Samantha since the 4th grade when Samantha moved here from Germany. Now we are in 10th grade and best friends. Natalie has only known Jacob since 8th grade... Beat that jerk face.

"Hey I've gotta get going-"Samantha started to say but my phone started ringing. She looked at me.

"Who is it?"

"Natalie." I said grabbing for my phone. Samantha laughed.

"Hello?"

"Hey... "

"Hey. How are you?"

"My head hurts a little but I'm getting better."

"That's good... I miss you." She laughed.

"I miss you too dork." She's back.

"So when can you come back to school?"

"Next week."

"Oh great."

"Yeah, hey we are having wings tonight... wanna come over?"

"Yeah sure. I'll be over about 5?"

"Yeah great I'll see you then."

"Okay bye."

"Bye."

And the line went dead. I had the biggest smile on my face I never knew was possible.

"She doesn't hate me!" I screamed making people look at me. Samantha giggled.

"Of course she doesn't you're her best friend." She stood up. "Well I really have to go have fun tonight." She winked and walked away.

I knocked on her front door rocking back and forth on my heels. The door opened to see Mrs. Darby.

"Hello Kolby." She smiled "Come on in."

"Thank you." I smiled and stepped inside.

"Dinner won't be ready for another hour so you can go up to Natalie's room." I nodded and saw. Her husband walk into the kitchen. He leaned down and kissed her cheek. Her eyes closed for a second and her smile got bigger... like that was even possible.

It was just nice. The thought of loving someone so much just the slightest brush of the lips makes you go crazy. I wondered what it was like. I turned and walked upstairs. I heard the faint sound of Sam Smith playing. I smiled she absolutely loved him and was going to wear that CD out. Oh and I bought her that CD. Two points for team Kolby. I knocked on her door and opened it. She was lying on her bed with a pencil and notepad in her lap.

"Hey." Her head lifted and her eyes landed on me. She smiled and put her notepad and pencil on her nightstand.

"Hi." She patted her bed. "Come sit." I walked over and took off my shoes and sat down.

"I've missed you." She puppy dog eyed me. I laughed... she said it first I was mentally dancing.

"I've missed you too." She held her arms out. I scooted closer and wrapped my arms around her.

It felt so right. Her in my arms. I wish I could freeze this moment when she's not thinking about jerk face but she's thinking about me. I mean all I do is think about her but... you know. She pulled away.

"So." She got serious. "Have you talked to Bella?" I threw my head back and she laughed.

"Why are you being so obsessive about her?" I laughed.

"Because you need a girlfriend and she's pretty and she obviously likes you so go for it. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work." Sounded simple enough but Bella wasn't Natalie.

"Yeah yeah I'll try." She clasped her hands together and smiled

"Yay! I win!" We both laughed.

"Natalie! Dinner!" Her mom called. We both got up and went downstairs.

We sat down and started eating.

"So Kolby, what do you plan on doing this summer?" Natalie's mom asked.

"I'm not sure yet. I would like to get a part time job so I can start making some money."

"Oh awesome. Are you and your family going anywhere?"

"Maybe we usually do so I would be surprised if we didn't."

That's pretty much how dinner went. After dinner Natalie walked me out to my car.

"I had fun." I nodded.

"Me too."

"I've really missed you Kol." I smiled.

"I've really missed you too." I pulled her into a hug. As she hugged my torso I rested my head on hers swaying back and forth a little. She pulled back and looked up at me.

"You know I love you right." I nodded still swaying us back and forth.

"Yeah I know." She smiled and tightened her arms around me. I kissed the top of her head and pulled away and got in my car.

"You be safe okay?" I laughed.

"What are you? My mother?" She slapped my head and I laughed again pulling out of the driveway and back to my house.
