Mondo opened their eyes, before immediately closing them. It was bright. Too bright. Why was everything so bright? Their eyes burned from looking at the white all around them. They didn't understand what was going on. One minute they were being executed, the next they were here, wherever here was. They slowly opened their eyes again, allowing them to adjust to the light. From there. everything started to come into focus.
They were looking at a city. They knew the city they were in, but not their exact location. After they took in everything in front of them, they turned to their side to see what was there. It seemed like they were at the gates of something. They turned completely around to see if they could tell where they were from what was there. Well, they were right.
When they turned around, they were met with a huge building. One that they thought, and hoped, they wouldn't see again.
Hope's Peak Academy.
The place where they spent not even a year of their life. They didn't know why they were still there. Didn't they die? Was this whatever god there was fucking with them? They took a step toward the school. If that stupid black and white bear was in the building, they wanted to beat it until it was unrecognizable.
But as soon as they took a step past the gate, they froze. Everything came back to them at once. The years they spent at Hope's Peak, the time they spent with their classmates, the time they spent with their gang during those three years, the time they spent with students from another class (what were their names... Tanaka and Souda?), the tragedy, their relationship with Taka...
Chihiro.
They remembered everything about their relationship with him. They were dating Chihiro. They were in a loving relationship with both Chihiro and Taka. They could remember every date, every night they spent just spending time together and cuddling, in great detail. They felt like the shittiest person on the planet.
They killed him. They killed one of the boys he loved, and broke his promise to the other. They killed him and didn't even care at first. They didn't deserve to be his lover. Fuck, they didn't even deserve to be his friend.
Mondo was starting at the ground, just doing what they could to make sure their legs kept them up, when they heard it. Something they almost wished they never had.
"Mondo..?"
The voice was soft and kind, with a hint of fear in it. Mondo didn't want to look up. They knew who it was. They knew who had said their name, but they didn't have the heart to face him. They didn't have the heart to face what they did to the shorter boy.
He hadn't noticed when the other had gotten closer. He only realised when Chihiro placed his hand on the larger person's arm, causing them to flinch. They turned their head to the side, trying to avoid looking at the programmer. His grip on their jacket tightened.
"Mondo... Please look at me..?"
He sounded unsure and scared. They knew they caused this. They knew that they were the reason Chihiro was so scared. It was their fault. They killed him, it was their fault-
They felt arms around them. They were incredibly gentle, holding the biker gang leader as if they were the most fragile thing in the world. It was at that moment they broke. Their legs finally gave out on them as they wrapped their arms around the small boy. They were trying to be as gentle as they could be, but they couldn't help but cling to Chihiro.
Chihiro wasn't expecting that kind of reaction. He thought that Mondo might feel a bit bad about what they did, but he wasn't expecting them to be this upset about it. The taller was just there, holding him and sobbing. He didn't know what to do other than hold the other and pet their hair as best he could while trying to prevent himself from crying as well.
The two of them stayed there for what felt like hours before Mondo finally calmed down. In reality, it hadn't even been fifteen minutes, but time almost seemed to slow down around them. When Mondo had managed to mostly regain control over their breathing, Chihiro pressed a light kiss to their head.
"It's okay now... It's over... We're safe now... We can just pretend like we're living out normal lives again."
Mondo remained quiet, not knowing what to say. They moved their face off of Chihiro's shoulder and gently pushed him away.
"How the fuck can you say that? We... I... We're dead! We're dead and I fuckin' killed you! How can you... how can you hold me and say that we can just act like that didn't fuckin' happen?!"
They were starting to cry again. They didn't know why they were crying so much, this wasn't normal for them. Then again, a lot had happened to them in that school.
Chihiro moved closer to them again, gently reaching for and grabbing their hand. He looked up at them and gave them a small, kind smile.
"Because I know that you had forgotten, and you were overwhelmed and stressed from the situation we were in."
Mondo opened their mouth to say something before Chihiro placed a finger over their lips, immediately making them be quiet.
"I know that doesn't excuse what you did, but at the very least, I forgive you," he said, placing his head on Mondo's chest.
Mondo just stared down at the small boy, not knowing what to say. They wrapped their arms around him again. They knew that things wouldn't be okay for a long time. But maybe, just maybe, they could get better.
