Birthdays

The best day of my life

Was the day I was born

That was the day I opened my eyes

And saw the world

When I look back at it now

I'm happy to just even be here

To experience all the things

That made me come to love you dear

The very passing of a storm

A rainbow peeking through the clouds

A beautiful sunset on the beach's horizon

I look out the car window and see the rain coming down

I was lucky enough to be born with a steady beating heart

No lacking in hearing

No allergies of any sort

Just near-sighted vision

No physical disabilities or any brain-damaging warts

And now every time when my birthday comes around

I can't help but smile and jump up and down

Another year has passed!

And I'm still on this Earth

To just acknowledge that I'm still alive

To know I'm a child of Mother Nature's birth

I celebrate with a cake and a wish

To hope I'll still be loved by my family and friends

To know that one day I'll be severely missed

And so one day I want to spread the warmth around

Give my happy heart to others

And fill it loud with sound

Give others a second chance

Make people's wishes come true

Just like mine have been granted

But without you to care for, I feel very blue

I'll talk about you at another place and time though

For now let's just think

And hope for

And wish

That things can be better

But with your help they can

At one point or another

It seems like no one can understand

So we take our precious lives

In our own bruised and worn out hands

But hey, just remember

That everyone has problems

You will get through the pain

Your Sherlock Holmes will solve 'em

Please be patient

For one day you will fly

Like the immortal Phoenix

Soaring high into the sky

So, on that very special day

That's all about you

Remember that things will change

Whenever you're feeling blue
