Ava-Marie had so far lived a tragic life. At the mere age of fifteen her parents were stolen from her by dark magic. She couldn't help but think that was perhaps why they don't suggest two people of the same family, especially spouses, to become Auras.
However, Ava dealt with this pain and continued on. Things had to change though. Once known as the top of her class at Illervmony School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and a dedicated Thunderbird, she was now transferring to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a total unknown.
Not to mention an American.
After her parents funeral she was shipped to London to live with her Grandmother. Ava didn't mind her grandmother, they weren't close by any means but her Grandma Rose was a nice lady, and helped comfort her.
"Ava Marie... Ava," her Grandmother called.
"Oh yes, sorry, I was day dreaming," Ava sighed.
"I assumed as much. Now, do not let the other students bother you. They may pick at you a bit for where you come from, but just ignore it!"
"I will Grandma. What are the houses again?"
"Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff," her grandma smiled.
"Alright, and which one were you in again?" Ava had asked this question so many times, she figured one last try couldn't hurt.
"I have already told you, once you come back for Christmas I will tell you! Not before..." Her Grandma Rose then pulled her in for a tight hug, "it is time to board now. I know this is not your preferred situation but please enjoy it, Hogwarts is full of good surprises if you give it the time of day!"
"Yes I know, thanks, I'll see you at Christmas," Ava smiled and walked to the door of the train. Almost all of the other students had already boarded.
Ava boarded the train, but was unsure of where to sit. She stumbled upon a room that was still open. Three boys sat talking amongst themselves.
She stood in the door for a moment, mesmerized by the boy sitting on one side by himself. He had shaggy black hair that fell just below his ear. His cheeks pulled up as he laughed at something his friends said.
"Hello sweetheart, how can we help you?"
Ava glared back at him, "sweetheart?" she questioned.
All the boys turned and Ava watched as their eyes widened in wonder.
"Your an American? I think you got on the wrong bloody train..." the plumper of the boys breathed out.
"Yes I am American, but no I'm on the right train," Ava shot back. She didn't think sitting by these boys was such a good idea anymore.
"So what is it you need then love?" The shaggy haired boy asked again.
"Never mind," she hissed and walked away from the door frame. Since the door was still open she could hear the boys laugh at the interaction as well a one of their comments.
"So it's tru then, Americans really are rude and obnoxious."
She let out a frustrated groan but continued walking. Ava had no intention of talking to the three of them anymore.
As she walked through the train she began to notice none of the doors were open. Ava didn't want to open any more doors and have the same thing happen to her again.
She could hear laughter and talking from within the rooms. Most people were likely friends catching up after their summer break.
Just as she was about to continue into the next train car, and door slide open and a boy walked out, walking straight into her.
"Excuse me," she mumbled.
"You should keep a better watch on where your walking," the boy glared at her. "Look at my bloody glasses, you broke them in half."
"I mean technically I would say you ran into me... but hold them on your face, I can fix em!"
"Your American?"
"Just hold the damn glasses on your face." The boy did as told and held each side on his face. Ave pulled out her wand and focused on the break, "Oculus Reparo."
The glasses instantly mended themselves back together, the bridge back to normal. The boy pulled his hands away and smiled when the glasses once again rested on his nose.
"Not bad, I'm James," The boy gave her a charming smile.
"Ava-Marie, but you can call me Ava," she smiled back.
"Alright then Ava, I'll see you later I suppose."
With that the boy pushed around her and continued down the hall. She rolled her eyes and continued on. At least that interaction wasn't quite as bad as the first one she had.
Ava walked into the next train car, but it was slightly different. Instead of rooms it was tables, and not nearly as talkative as the other train cars had seemed. Everyone was talking in hushed tones or not talking at all.
When the car realized she had walked in they all stared at her, analyzing how she would react and her movements.
In the back corner she noticed a boy sitting all alone with his head in a book. Ava stood tall and walked proudly through the walkway until she reached the table with the lone boy.
"You mind if I sit here?" Ava asked.
The boys eyes lifted from the page and glared at her, "yes."
"Well there's no where else to sit, so you don't really have a choice," she hissed and threw herself onto the seat.
The boy just shook his head and continued to read his book. Ava watched green meadows fly by out the window until she couldn't hold her tongue any longer.
"So, what's your name?"
"Severus." He replied plainly.
"Oh, interesting name."
The boy ignored her so she decided to continue watching out the window. Nothing interesting happened for the rest of the ride. Any time she looked around the rest of the car, they all glared back at her. Ava decided to keep to herself and that she already didn't like Hogwarts.
