Long ago I used to know a girl
She loved to joke about the darkest things and dance around the harshest issues
With a Smile
It didn't matter what she talked about
She always managed to make every topic seem not as bad as it was
I talked with her once on a windy day
She told me still smiling
"Moms been doin drugs"
"Dads gone"
"Grandpas dead"
"and my cousins dying"
I was so confused why she was smiling at that
But then she said
"Ain't it funny that the thing your supposed to do when you're happy"
"is the thing that's hiding all the pain in the world?"
