Two weeks later the Malfoy's were preparing to floo to the Leaky Cauldron and enter Diagon Alley via the magic archway in the old pub's backyard. Draco was very, very excited because he knew there was a chance, no matter how small, that he might see--

"Now Draco you must remember that we are going there solely for your new school things, nothing more," Narcissa Malfoy said, interrupting the blonde's thoughts as she fussed with the collar of his shirt. They were wearing muggle clothes because they didn't want to draw too much unwanted attention to themselves.

"Of course, mother," Draco responded in a slightly annoyed voice as he twisted away from his mother's hands.

"Ready?" Lucius asked, taking a handful of the floo powder from the wide mouthed vase beside the elegant fireplace and handing it to Draco who nodded.

He threw the powder into the already roaring fire, which turned a bright green. Draco released a breath he didn't know he had been holding, stepped into the fire, and shouted "The Leaky Cauldron," in a clear voice. A howling wind filled his ears and made his eyes water so he quickly shut them. Then all at once the wind stopped, he opened his eyes and stepped out of the fireplace and into the Leaky Cauldron.

Draco spun in a circle taking in the familiar sight of the shabby looking pub. Everything looked the same and even Tom, the barman, stood behind the wood counter, polishing all the dirty glasses. Draco smiled and took a deep breath, soaking up all the memories. He heard a soft whooshing sound and turned around to see his mother spin into view and step out of the fireplace. Narcissa was quickly followed by Lucius who sneered slightly at the sight of the Leaky Cauldron.

Narcissa made an odd "tsk tsk" sound as she saw Draco, who had a tiny bit of dirt on his shoulder from flooing. She walked forward and brushed it off, while Draco rolled his eyes and decided that fighting it wouldn't help him. She then pulled out Draco's school supply list when she was satisfied that Draco didn't have a speck of dirt on him.

"Looks like we have to go to Flourish and Blotts first," Narcissa said, her eyes travelling down the list.

The Malfoy's exited the Leaky Cauldron and stepped into the small backyard. Lucius pulled his wand from his pocket and tapped the third brick on the left. The bricks moved to the sides of the wall all at once forming a small archway into Diagon Alley. Draco stepped through the archway first, smiling happily.

"Wow, everything looks the same," Draco exclaimed, looking out at all the colourful shops, each displaying different objects in their front windows.

"Well after the war they put everything back together as best they could," Narcissa said, stepping up beside Draco and placing her hand on his shoulder.

"Flourish and Blotts?" Draco asked, smiling up at his mother.

"Lead the way," Narcissa replied, gesturing for Draco to lead them.

After about an hour of walking in and out of stores, Draco had just about everything he needed. All that was left on the list he had made when he was emptying his trunk was new school robes. In the three months after the war he had grown a couple inches and now his robes were at least a foot too short for him.

The Malfoy's quickly made their way up the cobblestone street to Madam Malkin's Robes for all Occasions. As Draco pushed the door open a chime sounded through the shop and Madam Malkin came to the from door to greet them.

"Hello, Mrs. Malfoy and Mr. Malfoy. What are you looking for today?" She asked kindly as she stepped infront of them.

"Well, Draco here, grew out of his old school robes so we came to get him new ones," Narcissa said, smiling kindly at Madam Malkin.

"Oh yes, I assumed so," she replied, ushering them towards some enchanted mirrors that turned by themselves.

"What do you mean?" Draco questioned, as he stepped onto the familiar platform and stretched out his arms.

"Many of the 7th year Hogwarts students have come to get new robes because they all grew out of theirs. Quite a few gave them away because they didn't think they would be returning to Hogwarts," Madam Malkin explained, as she pulled out a tape measure from her cloak pocket.

"Oh, that makes sense," Draco said, nodding in understanding as the tape measure hovered in the air by itself, "I wasn't expecting to go back to Hogwarts either."

The process of measuring Draco for his new robes didn't take long because the tape measure was enchanted to do all the measuring by itself. In almost no time Draco's new robes were ready, and they looked as amazing as ever.

"That will be ten galleons, please," Madam Malkin said, handing them Draco's new robes neatly folded in a bag.

Lucius pulled some money out of the pocket of his muggle shirt and handed it to her. They Malfoy's left the shop, Draco holding the bag containing his robes in his hand with a slightly disappointed look on his pale face. Narcissa noticed this and became worried instantly.

"Draco what's wrong?" She asked, taking Draco by the shoulder which caused him to stop and face her, "are you not happy with your robes? We can go back and get different ones."

"Oh, no it's fine mother," Draco replied hurriedly, not bothering to met her eyes, "I'm fine."

Narcissa knew he was lying but she also knew it wasn't worth pressing the point, she wouldn't get anymore information from doing that. The three blondes walked quickly back to The Leaky Cauldron. They each grabbed a handful of floor powder and in turn threw it into the fire and said "Malfoy Manor".

Later that evening Draco lie in bed thinking about the events of that day. He was all very happy that he got all his things but he still had an odd feeling. It felt as though he wasn't satisfied. He had been hoping to see a certain someone but didn't get to. Draco knew it had been a very slim chance that they would be there at the exact time on the exact day, but he still hoped they would be there. That hope was crushed as soon as Draco flooed back to his house.

As soon as he stepped out of the fireplace he didn't wait for his parents to come spinning into view but instead ran straight to his room, slammed the door as hard as he could and fell sobbing onto the floor. He still didn't know why he even cared so much about this person, that don't matter that much do they? But that isn't what Draco's tear stained cheeks said.

Narcissa had tried to come in but as soon as she turned the door handle the door locked and she couldn't even open it with the Alohamora spell. After many fruitless other attempts to open the door, she gave up and instead sent her Patronus into his room to give him a message.

Draco, the glowing fox had said in Narcissa's voice, Draco I need you to know that I love and you can tell me anything. I know that these teenage feelings are hard to handle, I had them before. There is no point in hiding and wondering if she likes you or not, you have to tell her.

Draco sat there stunned as the fox disappeared. How did she know, Draco thought. But then he smiled, it felt so good that he didn't have to hide his secret anymore. He might as well shout it from the rooftops, and so that is exactly what he did.

Draco threw open his balcony doors, put his wand to his throat and said Sonorus so that his voice would be amplified. He stepped up to the edge of the railing and clutched it with his free hand. Then he looked out at the beautiful sunset made up of reds, oranges and yellows and shouted;

"I love Hermione Granger!"
