Chapter 1

Hey guys :>  first book here! This is a WIP with my friend, @tawnywren and we're writing this super slowly so don't expect another chapter anytime soon XD

And sorry it's so short :/

This is a fanfiction and I do not own Warriors. Warriors credit to Erin Hunter.

The day became hot by noon, with the air creamy with blossom from the flower buds.

Two she-cats padded alongside each other, their pelts brushing occasionally in the dappled sunlight dripping through the leaves above. One of the she-cats' tortoiseshell fur blended in with the splashes of sunlight, while the other's blended in with the shadows made from the thick tree trunks.

The mottled she-cat padded with uncertainty; for she was afraid for what the forest held within it. While the tortoiseshell was excitedly bounding across the cushioned forest floor, chasing insects and leaping high in the air to hook the falling leaves on her outstretched claws.

"Hey Kelsi," the tortoiseshell managed to puff between heavy breaths. "Do you think we'll ever find a place to stay?"

"We're bound to find a perfect location soon. Don't worry so much Skip." Kelsi, the mottled black and white she-cat meowed.

The two cats have been walking for two sunrises now, occasionally stopping for rests due to the lack of exercise they had as housecats. I can't wait until we get that sorted, Kelsi thought. The two of them have gotten quite plump on their journey, feeding on the mice that basically leapt into their paws.

As the she-cats padded on, the sun began to sink below the horizon, leaking the dying rays filtering through the tree cover above in bright yellow streamers. The light in the sky was fading fast, and Kelsi knew they had to find safe shelter soon. Besides, Skip was beginning to drag her paws, and Kelsi thought her legs were almost dropping off. I could do with some fresh-kill right about now, thought Kelsi as her stomach growled so loud it could've scared off all the prey in the forest.

"I was just thinking the same thing," Skip mewed with clear amusement in her voice.

"Let's find a place to sleep and settle down then," mewed Kelsi, slowly scanning the forest around her in hope of a place big enough for two cats to sleep comfortably. After a few heartbeats, Skip noticed an abandoned fox den under a small elderberry shrub which had lost its leaves, its long naked arms curled protectively around the entrance.

"Kelsi! Look! This place is perfect!" Skip yowled to Kelsi from a few fox-lengths away.

"Shh, you don't want to scare off all the prey now do you? Yes okay, I see it. Wow, that is perfect," The tone of Kelsi's voice betrayed the longing to curl up in a warm nest after a long day of walking.

"But Skip, we need to hunt before we go to bed, don't forget." meowed Kelsi.

"How could I forget?" Skip interrupted. "My stomach is growling like it's facing three badgers at once! I'm absolutely starving!" As if on cue, Skip's stomach grumbled once more.

"Kelsi, can you please hunt with me?" Skip asked. "I'm not that used to hunting like you were when we were back at the Humanplace. Can you show me how you do it again?"

Kelsi rolled her eyes and padded past Skip, flicking her ear with her tail tip affectionately. "Of course, you furball." she tossed over her shoulder.

The two she-cats padded across the leaf littered ground, careful not to snap a twig or step on a dead leaf to startle whatever chance of prey is around them. After sniffing every leaf on the shrubs and tracking a few scents of prey, both she-cats caught a mouse each and Kelsi caught a skinny squirrel. Measly catch, she thought. I'm just so hungry right now I don't care what I eat.

Kelsi and Skip flopped down outside their makeshift den and bit into their fresh-kill. "We need to get used to catching our own food," Skip mewed with her mouth full of mouse. "Yes," Kelsi replied. "And talking with our mouths shut when they're full-" Her mew was cut off from a heavy weight bowling her over from the side, pinning her to the ground.

The triumphant almond-shaped face that appeared in front of Kelsi's quickly turned into surprise as Kelsi suddenly kicked upwards with her hind legs, sending Skip launching into the air and tumbling into the dust. "Skip, come on," puffed Kelsi and she rolled over back onto her paws, shaking her pelt. "We better go to sleep now. I'm really, really tired. If we continue to walk tomorrow we'll need all the strength we can get."

By the time the two cats had eaten their fresh-kill and had their tussle, the moon was already up in the black sky.

Kelsi and Skip gratefully dragged their paws to their make-shift den, crawled under the elderberry bush, and curled up next to each other in the dirt.

They were too tired to notice the prickles that spiked their pelts, too exhausted to notice the fresh reek of fox and the menacing snarl that erupted behind them.

Soooo how was it? This took me a while to write as I was trying to write like how the series sounds. Please tell me in the comments how it is so far :)

We (meaning @tawnywren and I), don't mean to copy it in any way, shape or form. Warriors credit to Erin Hunter
