"Shit."
Just silence. Usually he'd be barging in my room right now, boasting about some girl he fucked. It is a Friday anyways. It's too quiet for my liking though.
I drowned out my surrounding with A$AP Rocky's 'Kid's Turned Out Fine'. He lied.
"Hmph.. no they didn't."
I truly didn't notice the tear running down my cheek. Stop crying, it's not a good look. But it hurts so much...
Footsteps slowly approached my door and I quickly wiped the tears away, covering my eyes with my forearm.
"Honey, it's time." Oh, it's just mom, "I know it's hard but you have to go. For-"
"Yeah I know already. For him", I replied coldly.
"Okay. I'll be waiting in the car."
With a sincere smile, she exited the room and I sat up, taking a glance at myself in the mirror. Wow, I look like shit.
"For him."
"Come on Rachel, get your shit together", I mumbled to myself while heading towards the car.
The ride is silent— not an awkward silence but it wasn't comfortable either. My mother and I didn't really know what to say to each other so we didn't speak. Not like I was going to do much talking anyways. Traffic was getting thicker, that's how I knew we were getting close to our destination. My palms started quivering and moistened as if they were melting. I could feel my mother's eyes on me through the rearview mirror, causing my heartbeat to increase more. I feel like I'm about to explode, I can't take this anymore.
"Mom, please pull over."
"We're in the middle of traffic, I can't just-"
"Please!"
The car came to a sudden stop an I jumped out the car as fast as I could. My hands continued to shake as I tried the light the blunt I hastily grabbed from my pocket. I didn't know where I was walking but it felt like my legs were taking me in the right direction. Once I finally caught a look at my surroundings, my blunt lit.
The park. This is where we used to hang out on warm days, where we always met up when needed; the continuous laughs and spark ups. My legs did know where they were taking me.
The park was empty the way I like it, no one to bother me as I smoked. His favorite swing from the set still slanted just the way he liked it, just to be a little different than everyone else. This is just sad, I can't stop thinking about him.
"I knew I'd find you here."
My neck snapped back only to find my second friend, Brandy. It's been a while since I've seen her, she definitely got more beautiful since the last time I saw her. Long box braids that led to her hips, thick lips that complimented her button nose. Those piercing dark brown eyes that seemed basic to others was always intimidating to me. Curvy body suiting well with her ass- and god, her ass.
"Pass me that." She took the blunt from my fingers, "Your mom told me you left the car before arriving. You know we have to go right?"
I raspy said, "I know."
Another silent moment only this time, it was comfortably awkward. I observed her as she inhaled and exhaled the smoke. I don't know if it was the weed but she looked absolutely gorgeous at this moment, made me forget everything I was feeling as well as the negative feeling I had in my heart.
"Y'know", she started, "Although the clouds are all gloomy along with the atmosphere right now, being here on these swings... it feels like the sun is shining."
It does.
"Makes it feel like he's here with us, I know he's watching us right now."
"I think he just might be."
After a couple more pulls, Brandy tosses the clip and stands out, reaching into her purse. She pulls out a pack of gum, taking one for herself and hold one out to me. I look up, finding myself getting caught into her eyes.
"He would want us to be there. I know it's hard right now but it's the right thing to do. For Jayden."
A smile formed at the corner of my lips as I took the strip of gum.
"For Jayden."
