You see, I've never had an awesome childhood.
My parents always had fights & I woke up to traumatic arguing during the nights only to hear my dad slamming the front door closed & my mum ball her eyes out for hours after he had left.
My best Friend would stay with me some nights & comfort me through out the whole thing.
My parents didn't mind if he was a boy as they didn't see a 7 year old to be any harm to their little girl of age 6,
They only saw it as a sleepover none the less.
Jason, my Best friend would hold out his small arms & let me crawl between them like a was a safe keeping.
I would sob into the crook of his neck & he'd sing to me "everything is going to be alright",
Yeah Bob Marley..
It was our favourite song growing up.
We would wake up in the morning to complete silence & like kids do try & beat the next person by rushing to the bathroom,
I'd let him win every time.
"Hurry up it's my turn", I squeal crossing my legs extra tight,
*Flush*
That was my queue on going in,
"Took you long enough", I giggled, watching him stand on the stool to grab his toothbrush,
He just smiled & went on brushing,
I finished up & proceeded to jump on Jason's back for a ride as he walked out of the bedroom into the kitchen where we found my distraught mother,
She had a cigarette wedged between her fingers & a whiskey cup planted on the table,
"Momma", I say gently as I see a teardrop roll down her cheek,
She looks up at me with a sad expression & then a small smile finally is pasted on her face,
"Good morning beautiful girl", she says opens her arms for me to jump in,
I smile & do just that as Jason joins in,
She kisses my forehead aswell as Jason's as we as children stare at each other not knowing exactly what my mother was going through
Yet.. she still smiled & embraced us with a bear hug.
It only lasted a short time but, it was worth every second.
Suddenly the front door swung open & my Father walked in to see us in my mother's arms,
"Get out, me & you mum need to talk!" He yelled making me & Jason flinch.
We obeyed & rushed to the bedroom to get ready for school.
"Quick, we're going to be late butterfly", Jason giggled like a little boy would.
"I'm going as fast as I can", I reply giggling back,
We get ready & head out the back door to the house in complete silence.
It was never in my mind that that would be the last time I saw my beautiful mother alive.
