A lonely sock dangled from a rack, its whole life had been crampt and cold, burdened by the line of countless other carbon copys of itself that hung just infront of them. They had yearned to touch the light of day again, or perhaps it was a deeper yearning. A feeling they didn't yet understand, or by the matter even want to. After all, it wasn't like anything would change. No one would ever select them.
Days past into months- or so it seemed. Time flew by so quick it was hard to even tell how long they had been sitting there for. But a jingle was heard, and the soft, ever so elegant- and maybe to sock even lustful tread of walking was heard. There was all at once nothing, and then a shot of blasting light that stinged the fabric of sock. It was like heaven to sock, he hadn't seen the world in ages. Placed onto a counter, a different kind of coldness tickled his side. The old register 'tinged' and buzzed with strange jumbled sayings that were unknown to them being bounced back and forth.
Soon they were placed again and tossed into the back of presumably a truck. It smelled different, fresh, exotic. Defiantly not stale or fake like the store had been, but hints of smoke and hickory. The rest had been a blur. After the initial take off sock collapsed, they knew not of what was ahead and the unknown to them was better ignored then faced.
The next day they awoke, had it been a dream? They were no longer cold and the feeling of being folded over and pressed against was present. They were defiantly in a drawer, tales of it from passing shoes and socks still zoomed through his mind as if it was fantasy. Thats when it hit. The realization. Their life was basically meaning less, what had they been doing all these years rotting away? Yes indeed it was a crisis. It wasn't pleasent realizing that they had only been made to serve people and that they were never intended to have feelings.
Another feeling, quite familier struck them. The lust, the need, the darkness and warmth. His life wasn't all just one huge lie or a mistake, they had a role. A shoe isn't well without a sock. Cherry red spread against their tender snow white face. This was only the start of something special.
