"YOUR SKILL IS SO USELESS BAHAHAHAHA," A kid with black hair, light green eyes and a rather burly figure for a 12 year old.

"That coming from someone who can die from their own skill is rare, isn't it, Garbear!" The victim of the kid's laughter responded with a venomous tongue.

"OI DON'T CALL ME THAT- PFFFT. STILL, ALL YOU CAN DO IS STRETCH YOUR TONGUE. WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO? CONTRACT A DISEASE BY LICKING THE FLOOR??" The kid laughed back.

The kid with black hair and light green eyes was known to be named Gary Sanderson and the other person he was laughing at was his transferred classmate named Kai Xin. Generic black hair and black eyes, she had. Her hair was tied into braids that hung on her shoulders while she hid her gaze with not only her fringe but her surprisingly reflective glasses.

Not like she was that offended or anything. Gary was known for making quite rude jokes for the sake of his own laughter. He didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings or make enemies nor did he have a tragic backstory. He simply thought it'd be funny to call out certain people. At least he makes sure they're the type who wouldn't mind such things.

"Woii, stop lah," Another kid from Gary's class came about.

She had black hair too, tied into a neat ponytail that barely reached her shoulders. She had a lean figure but there was one thing off about her that separated her from everyone else.

She had cat ears in her hair.

Often mistook for a childish hairband. Odd outfits had been normalised but wearing fursuits or anything related makes you look weird.

How ignorant of some people not to realise that some people's skills are integrated into their body.

Society can be seriously unreasonable and judgemental.

Besides that, she had good strength of character.

"Tch, whatever, cat girl.." Gary turned away. He figured he had had his tears of hilarity for the day.

However, before he could even shift his weight onto his other leg, he felt a quick buzz on his face that heated up quickly and was followed by a loud,

SLAP!!

"I have a name and it's Wen Jun. It isn't that hard to remember. Idiot, issit?" The girl with cat ears appeared in front of him, staring him down from a few inches below him.

From behind, Gary could sense Kai Xin's face brightening up.

Gary put his hand on his cheek that sizzled with a burning sensation. Did she have sandpaper for palms or what?

He felt tears well up in his eyes due to the pain but instead of showing weakness, he chuckled.

"WAH, DAMN STRONG SIA," Gary lightly punched Wen Jun on the shoulder.

Easing her furrowed face, Wen Jun smiled happily.

  "He actually laughed!"

  was her first thought.

Before Gary could walk off after the end of his laughter, his group of friends surrounded him like he was pollen to the bees that were his friends.

Adam, a rather short kid with curly black hair and circular glasses with a black jacket previously belonging to a classmate he favoured, smacked Gary on the back.

"I LIKE YOUR CUT, G," Adam screamed at Gary.

Lee Hee (Lee-huh), a lean kid slightly taller than Gary with thin rectangular glasses, began screaming gibberish to lead Gary away to another place. Always worked, never failed. It was a confusing skill he had but it wasn't even his main skill. It was just a cool thing he could do.

Jason, a kid the height of Adam, began asking random questions that partially made sense but either way, you wouldn't want to listen to him when you're tired and out of brain cells.

"If toast is a piece of cooked bread and usually served with toppings on top, does this make pizzas a type of toast? If we could see through ocean water, we would be able to see all the dead bodies at the bottom of the sea as well as what other freakish creatures we are yet to discover. Do you think Hitler is gay?"

Never made any sense but he would be great at distracting people. Certainly worked for everyone in his friend group.

Before he knew it, he was listening to the classic random trash his friends laid out for him. Lucky or not, still funny to him.

Day by day, he seemed to have gotten bored of listening to his friends babble all day long. He would still contribute to the conversations and make up some nonsense himself but he felt the others too. They too, were bored. Were they going to disband sooner or later?

However, Gary didn't feel alone. He always felt like someone was there. That feeling grew stronger as time passed until eventually, the year ended, they were off to their secondary schools. Not like they could choose where they wanted to go. Your aggregate decided everything and before he knew it, Gary's group of friends had disbanded. Only chatting every now and again in the group chat.

Gary's aggregate wasn't low but it wasn't very high either. However, it was a good standard for being in the top two classes in his school standing with an aggregate of 216. His friends had gotten better than him, ranging from 237-244. Kai Xin passed with a 213, unfortunate. Wen Jun had an eerily similar score to a certain someone. Wen Jun stood with an aggregate of 214.

"Damn my lack of Chinese skills..."

she cursed her lack of skill in her mothertongue subject.

"Don't beat yourself up, Wen Jun. I got way worse," Kai Xin reassured Wen Jun.

"How is that s'pposed to help me. My mom will kill me..." Wen Jun felt her soul leave her body momentarily.

"Well... Look on the bright side! I heard a specific somebody got 236. Maybe you'll end up in the same school," Kai Xin whispered towards the end to seeing Wen Jun's spirit be lifted.

From the day of receiving their aggregate, 26 November up to the day they had to leave to their secondary schools, Wen Jun had been beaming with joy, thinking about how close they might end up.

Not necessarily in that way but being they are sure to be a fun couple of friends, right?

By the time they were in secondary school, Gary noticed dark blue cat ears peering upwards in his new classroom.

"She seems familiar... did-did she dye her hair?"

She couldn't help but feel gazing eyes in her direction and looked back at him only to give him her iconic cheshire cat smirk.

This brought Gary's heart to a stop for a second when he realised he had been staring. What a pain.

Not recognising anyone else in his classroom. He hoped to be good friends with Wen Jun. Making new friends is never easy. And that's on being aware of his not very charismatic personality.

How can they bond? Who knows. Maybe fate has something special in store for them.
Bland, yet somehow an interesting introduction to a new chapter of their lives.
