It all started with technology. A change. Improving. They called it a lifetime revolution. The world would never ever be the same again. All this work was meant to improve the lives of the people. Make life easier. Bring happiness and equality. Bring everlasting world peace. But did it?
China invented the first ever best functioning Artificial Intelligence. It could think for itself, walk, talk and do what any ordinary human being could. Although it still lacked the emotional compassion of a human. They were hailed as the best country in the modern world. The beginners of the technological revolution throughout history.
Thus, various countries from all over the world ordered as many ‘robots’ as they could. Soon every household owned at least one. From vacuuming bots to mopping bots, washing bots, and even a babysitting bot (a relief for many parents who might need an extra hand or just simply to relax).
Quickly, AI worked its way into every part of the economy you can imagine; restaurants, businesses, hospitals, medicines, schools, offices, police stations, the government and even politics. In some situations, a human would request to be assisted by AI instead of another being. There was really no need for human beings to do anything anymore. Life was easy.
New types and versions started being introduced. Cindy, Xin, Juan, Peter are a couple of their names. Naturally such ‘common’ names disappeared from human names. Ancient names based from the Greek, Roman, Norse and more various mythology were utilised for human beings instead. Life was changing.
World powers started manufacturing AI into military weapons. Nuclear power was a thing of the past. They began using quantum energy charged weapons, devices, bombs, missiles and more. Nothing would ever be the same again. Cars could fly, people-built wings, trains travelled at the speed of light, teleportation was in use but mostly for the rich and important families. the purpose of equality did not come to pass.
The development of AI as war robots did not bring peace nor bonds between different peoples nor races nor any cultures nor other nationality either. Instead, it created deeper divisions. Pride emerged and threats circulated.
Various world countries all declaring they had the best systems. America came first with 2x better, 7x faster and 22x stronger than any current existing machine. Then Germany followed behind with 3x better, 9x faster and 24x stronger. China grinned with their lovely 7x better, 16x faster and 38x stronger. Russia laughed and laughed never revealing what they were up to.
As the rumours of war spread, the governments did what they could. Not that any of it helped much. Until they decided to do one last thing: hide the children. If the war was to begin, and most people were to die at least the younger generation would survive.
So, heeding to this call, they created ‘bunkers’ to keep them safe and away from the surface. At least, far enough to not be in direct physical harm.
One can learn that you cannot promote peace by preparing for war. Peace will not and cannot come from the enforcing of guns, missiles or bombs. It comes from the simplest kind acts and gestures. A simple thing yet so difficult for human beings to understand. That for one, artificial intelligence happened to understand so fully.
Little did they know that this act would not stop the war but accelerate it further. The younger generation wanted to know, to see their long-lost parents and relatives. What exactly had happened to their once beautiful world…?
