Aria's POV
Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
My name is Aria Martins, I'm 16 and an orphan in my mind. The people I live with are stinking rich and spoil me with said riches because they feel guilty.
I have three best friends, Kavan Braiden, Madison Braiden and Charlotte Elliot. Kavan is a class above us and he is the only one in the world who knows the full story about my life because he was there for all of it. He knows I don't like talking about it and he is the most perfect human ever.
I attend Glendon prep which is this fancy private school. I have two other best friends. Madison Braiden and Charlotte Elliot.
I have blonde hair, I have beautiful blue eyes and perfectly tanned skin, even in the dead of winter. Some people would describe me as beautiful.
Now that you know a little about me let me just tell you that I always come super early to school so that I can be out of the hallways before Nisha Adams shows up.
Nisha is one of the hottest girls at Glendon prep and is my locker neighbour. She is also in love with Kavan. Kavan is so not interested in her and she feels this is my fault so she takes it out on me. Kavan knows about the fact that she bullies me but I always try not to let her bother me.
She's always flanked by Sutton and Laurel Mendler. They're twins and obey Nisha's every command. They don't like her, but it's all about popularity at this school.
I hurry to get my books for the day so that I don't have to come by this locker more than necessary. I slam my locker and turn around to find Nisha towering over me in her high heels. Like seriously, who wears high heels to school. I've predicted that Nisha will either die in high heels or because of them.
"Well look what the cat dragged in." I try to walk around her but Sutton blocks my path. I turn around and find Laurel there.
Oh great. Today will be one of those days.
"Listen Nisha, I'd love to stay and chat but I have a project to work on and I need to be at business management class early..." I start rambling, hoping she'll get tired of me and let me go.
She just laughs. "Darling Aria, I don't care about your itinerary but I do hope you've fitted a plastic surgery somewhere in there because you need one."
"That's nice and all, but unlike some people, I do not need surgery to enhance myself just so I can be noticed by boys."
"Because you're so ugly that they wouldn't notice you anyway." Laurel quips.
"Maybe you should start by growing a few inches." That came from Sutton.
I may not have said this before but I'm shorter than the average sixteen-year-old. I'm 5'3 and proud of it.
"Why don't you guys go make someone else sick for a while?" I hear a deep voice quip and tiptoe to see Kavan behind Nisha.
"Hey, Kav-Kav. There's a party at my place this Saturday, wanna come. I'll make it worth your while," Nisha shamelessly flirts with Kavan while I use that opportunity to escape.
I look back at Kavan and Nisha and almost go back to help him, but then again, she can't give him herpes this way so I guess he's okay.
I run to class
...............................................
Even though Nisha constantly bullies me, I'm still really popular and most people treat me and my friends like untouchables.
I spend my next few classes thinking of all the ways a person can die in high school. At the top of my list is death by the popular girl squad.
I don't have any classes with Nisha for the first half of the day but soon my most dreaded class arrives. Gym.
When the bell rings I get my things and walk to the locker rooms as fast as possible. I have a problem with other girls watching me dress up so I try to be in and out before most of them even arrive.
Today's class is on volleyball so Coach Platt picks the team captains. Nisha is a team captain as well as Emma Becker.
Emma picks me first which isn't surprising because I'm incredibly athletic.
I try my best not to do anything to annoy Nisha throughout the game but that doesn't work out so well. In the last quarter of the game, Nisha spikes the ball at me. I volley it up, Emma supports and I smash it back into Nisha's side somehow hitting her straight in the face.
Well, that's going to leave a mark. Everyone runs to Nisha to see if she's okay and I use that opportunity to escape the class.
I quickly change and go and sit in the car waiting for Kavan to arrive.
I spot Noah looking at me but I pretend as if I don't see him because I don't need the boyfriend drama yet.
I spot Kavan coming out of the science blocks with one of his admirers stuck to his heels. I honk the horn making them both jump and giving him a chance to escape her.
He drives me home and I immediately turn on my laptop and continue my research.
I know what you're thinking. No, I do not do my homework immediately after I get home. This is a different research. This is about me. I look nothing like the other people in my family and I wanted to know why.
I'd been doing my research for months and just stumbled upon a new lead. I clicked on the link.
ahahahahahah!
That's me screaming.
"Kavan, come over and see this." Kavan lands on the bed beside me.
He read the certificate on the screen about three times without saying anything.
"Say something. Say this isn't real. Tell me it's a prank." I scream.
This can't be real. How could I have been adopted? I'm not adopted. What's worse obviously had a twin.
It said here that her name was Kylie and a little digging helped me discover that she was in foster care in Nevada.
This couldn't be possible. I had to find her. Did she know about this? Was she also in the dark?
Had she already tried to find me? I thought I knew who I was all this while but this changes things. I thought back to my whole life. So everything was a lie.
This wasn't happening.
