It was December 28th, the day everyone who worked at Deep Valley Ski Resort waited for with burning anticipation. December 28th was the day that millionaire Joshua Dun checked in to the lodge for his yearly winter retreat. Every year was the same, Mr. Dun checked in at 2:00 pm on December 28th and checked out at 11:00 am on January 2nd. At 5:00 pm on the day of his arrival, Mr. Dun met with members of the companion staff to select whom he would spend his vacation with. Mr. Dun had a reputation for never being satisfied, never keeping a companion for more than an evening. Being chosen by Mr. Dun was a coveted position, however not being immediately dismissed by him seemed impossible, at least, until he chose Tyler.
It was 1:30 pm on December 28th and the staff was busy preparing for Mr. Dun's arrival. His room had been made spotless, everything made perfect to his liking. Jobs has been assigned for when he arrived, the best receptionist had been placed at the front desk, the most attractive maid has been chosen, and Tyler had been given the job of bell-boy. Tyler Joseph was by far the kindest, most sincere employee at Deep Valley. He has only worked at the resort for a few months and had seen more shady deals, secret affairs, and celebrity scandals than a tabloid could publish, yet he maintained his innocence and positive outlook. Tyler somehow remained untainted by the world and had become well known at the resort as reliable and kindhearted. Tyler was chosen to be Mr. Dun's bell boy because his manager thought he would make a good impression on Mr. Dun, and he would be able to absorb any negativity Mr. Dun gave him.
"What's he like?" Tyler asked Haley, one of his fellow employees and his closest friend at work. Haley was one of the companions at the resort for several years but had never been chosen by Mr. Dun.
"He's a prick like the rest of them, but he's hot and rich so he gets a free pass," she answered as they sat in the employee break room.
"I'm sure he can't be that bad. Everyone seems to make a big deal about him coming," Tyler said and Haley laughed quietly.
"Everyone makes a big deal because he's a big deal. The dude owns several major companies and is loaded. He's also never satisfied with anything. We all make bets on how long he can go without complaining about something, the current record is 3 hours and 27 minutes," she laughed.
"So he's a perfectionist, doesn't mean he's a prick," Tyler replied and Haley shook her head.
"Maybe not, but every girl who's spent the night with him says he's one. Though even after that we're all still excited to see who he picks," she said.
"What's the deal with that anyway?" he asked.
"So in the evening, Mr. Dun calls a meeting with all the companions and basically looks at us like cattle before choosing one lucky girl to spend the night with him. He says that they will spend the whole trip with him but no one has ever lasted more than a night, he sends them away. Here's the kicker: no one can say what goes on. He makes them sign some super official confidentiality paper before they do anything so no one really knows what goes on. It's probably some really fucked up kink," Haley said and Tyler's eyes grew wide.
"And you want to be chosen?" He asked and she nodded.
"Absolutely! There's a box in the manager's office that currently has some huge amount of cash in it. The first one to last more than a night gets a cut of it but whoever lasts the whole trip gets all the cash. It's an incentive bonus really," she said and Tyler could hardly believe what he was hearing. Before he could respond the door opened and Jake, one of the shift managers, walked in.
"I just got a call from the limo driver, he's on his way!" Jake said frantically and both Tyler and Haley jumped up. The three rushed out of the break room and to the lobby where several other staff members were waiting. Managers and Heads of Staff were rushing to make sure everyone knew their job and looked presentable.
