THEY SAY ADONIS LEE BLEEDS ICHOR. They call him a god, give him the name of Aphrodite's lover for his chiseled looks, and put him on a pedestal out of fear. Adonis can feel death, can perceive it before it even happens. And for that they call him blessed, they call him gifted, they call him powerful, they call him everything but what he really is— a mortal made of flesh and bones. One that bleeds red, one that feels pain, one that knows pain. Adonis is not a god, nor is he blessed, he is a mere boy pushed into the tracks of his family's gangland. He had no choice, no say in whether he wanted his gift (curse), no say in whether he wanted to continue the legacy his deceased father had left behind for him and his siblings. So Adonis does what he does best; he lets the darkness take over.

In his short twenty one years, Adonis has become accustomed to the blood shed in the basement of his home, to the screams of agony, to the soul consuming knowledge of death before it occurs. It starts in the tips of his fingers, renders them numb until it starts slowly crawling up his arms, makes his heart accelerate, turns his body into liquid until he can't stand on his own legs. He'll never grow used to it. Nor will he ever get used to those seeking his help, asking him to tell them how to avoid death. The thing no one gets, is that death is inevitable. It can't be undone.

His infatuation with Jason Todd, the boy who had been kissed by death, begins the day the young man walks through the Lee residence in Chinatown, asking to be trained by their best fighters, in hopes of avenging someone dear to him who had been killed by the Joker. He had been rejected by other gangs, and he refused to seek the help of Gotham's heroes. Adonis, who all his life had been accompanied by death, finally saw what wanting to be alive looked like in the eyes of Jason Todd. And so he himself agrees to train Jason, hoping that in the end, he would not regret it.
