I Float

Down Here

I remember watching the original IT when I was 7.  I got really sick and had to stay home from school.  I was half way asleep during the whole thing, and it ended up feeling like a fever dream.

I haven't seen it since, nor have I seen the new adaptation.  I was more of a Carrie person when it came to Stephen King novels.

I did however always feel a relation to the quote "We all float down here."  I'm not exactly sure why.  Maybe I see a deeper meaning.  Or maybe it's all just a bunch of crap.

Everyone takes meaning from useless things.  You cannot tell me there isn't something completely meaningless you take meaning from.  What is it?

I find things like love useless, but clearly others don't.  I hope someday that changes.

I'm not saying I don't fall in love.  It's the opposite actually.  I tend to fall in love quite easily.  Maybe I'll tell you about all the people I've loved before.  I know they've told you about me. 

You probably have no idea what I'm talking about.  Most people never do.  Maybe that's why I float.

We don't all float down here.  I think it's only a few of us.  And we all float on our own path, so we don't see each other.  Maybe that's just the part of me that doesn't want to be alone.  Maybe I am the only one who floats down here.  Do you float too?

I think I've met a few people who do.  But only you can truly know if you float.  There are signs that someone isn't floating though. 

To those who say you float, I can tell most of you don't.  The floaters are dark, where you show light.  We wish we could shine like you do.  But we are dark.  We are also slow and short, where you are fast and tall.  We duck in hallways to avoid getting knocked over by you.

Some of you knock us over for fun.  You're the ones we don't want to be like. 

So do you float?  Are you dark, slow, and short?  No, I'm not asking if you're petite and goth.  I'm asking if you float.

It's okay if you don't know, that probably means you don't.  You just don't see how much light you have.  Or how tall you are. 

And that's okay.
