We thought about the best as the fireworks lit up the sky
The wondrous thought of starting a new year filled us with joy
The satisfactory smell of the new pencil and pens we bought for school
And the new year with surprises yet to come to make us smile in awe
We continued on with our holidays
Waiting for the new school year to come along
To make new friends, to learn
And to put up with the challenges high school had for us
But the ragging summer was turning into a killing zone for the natural things we loved
and kobe bryant and his loving daughter was lost
Australia's icon was almost gone, now endangered
Firefighters came to our rescue but many of them died
But the fight wasn't over yet
Many communities came together to show that there was still faith in humanity
They baked cakes to raise money for the firefighters
And with the love and compassion of those communities and the hardworking firefighters
We had won the battle
School started and we were anxious yet excited for what was going to happen
we made new friends
We learnt new things
And we overcame most of the challenges high school had
And soon, more great things were going to happen
Well, that's what we believed
Breaking news: By the foolish ways of an officer,
We lost a man whose death has now changed life as we know it
We commemorated Gorge Floyd who was our very own superhero
And protested but we didn't know the consequences that, that had
In the blink of an eye,
we heard the worlds corona and COVID-19
Ringing through every single channel on the tv
We were locked, Isolated and depressed
We believed that there was no bright side to this situation
We had to stay at home to keep everyone safe
It was our duty
3000
5000 deaths we went through
But we ended up with 913 988
We wept we cried
For the lives that were lost
The more saddened we were
The more hope that was lost
Was this a punishment?
Or maybe it's the world, who screams so loud
Awaking us from the ignorant slumber that has made us lazy
A declaration of change?
We thought as days passed by
Soon something was going to make us alive
This time we were finally right
This wasn't a punishment
But an open door to band together,
instead of pushing each other further apart
Zoom played a big part
It helped us connect again
We then ended term 2 in our pyjamas,
lying in our beds with the messiest hair we could ever imagine
Doing our school work while procrastinating with our friends
And of course, being tired
We had the opportunity to relax
Taking a 5 hour trip to the snow was our chance to finally release the weights that had been heavying our shoulders
And so we carried on with our holidays
Which ended surprisingly fast
But it was definitely was a blast
Term three came in with a large package of covid cases
Poor victoria had to close down
But there was still hope to end it all
We had many assessments which brought back the weights
But we still fought and got through them all
Here we end
Not knowing what's to come,
Waiting for this year to end
And wishing for prosperity and happiness for the next coming years
2020 has been a heck of a rollercoaster
But we still ride waiting for the nest year to come
