Alex's P.O.V.

"Mia! What are you doing!?" She turned around from the bonfire, freezing,

"Shit." She placed her beer in the sand and got up, walling over to me. I looked around the fire again, my eyes stopping on Kaden,

"You too. Let's go." He sighed, getting up and following as we all went back down the beach to the house. "Sit.", I said as we walked in the back door. They both sat on the couch as I sighed, "Why?"

"Abuela is in the hospital again.", Kaden whispered, "She told me to come here but I was fucked up and didn't want you to see me like that and I stumbled on the party."

"I went for a walk and saw Kaden.", Mia added.

"Did you think about getting caught?"

"Yeah but I wasn't afraid to be like I was before.", she said softly.

"Why not? You know you're in huge trouble."

"But I know you won't hurt me bad." I tried to hide my smile,

"Just because I won't ever hurt you doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned about getting in trouble. It's not a good thing."

"I know it's not I just-" She paused, "Nevermind."

"No, what is it? You know not to hold your tongue here."

"I-I just like knowing someone cares."

"There are other ways I show that Mia."

"I know. But it means a lot that you still care even when I screw up."

"I know." I sighed, "Kaden, go upstairs to my room and find a belt, then a corner. I'll be up in a bit."

"Yes sir.", he whispered, leaving the room. I sat next to Mia,

"I don't really know what else to say to you. You know better, I'm disappointed. That's about it, yeah?" She nodded,

"Yeah. I'm sorry." I nodded,

"Go get a wooden spoon."

"Not the belt?"

"I mean if you'd rather-"

"No! No, I'm good. I just assumed."

"Kaden has done this before. And he used it as an outlet to avoid his emotions and that's been an ongoing problem as well."

"Oh. Okay." She got up and left, coming back with what I'd asked for and laying over my lap.

"Ready?"

"I guess."

SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!

I picked her up from my lap as she laid on me, sniffling tiredly.

"I forgive you now. No more, got me?"

"Yes sir."

"Good. Let's get you to bed." I stood and picked Mia up before carrying her up to her room and laying her in bed. She whined as I went to leave. "What's up love?" She pointed to a small pile of clothes on the floor,

"Those."

"You wanna change?", I chuckled. She nodded, half asleep. I picked up the baggy shorts and one of my shirts, sitting next to her on the bed. I went to unbutton her jeans as her eyes flew open,

"No!", she panicked, sitting up.

"Hey, it's alright. I'm sorry love." Her eyes closed again as she sleepily pulled off her jeans and put on the shorts as I helped.

"My dad's friends used to. It was just a reflex, nothing against you."

"I understand.", I said covering her up, "I promise nothing like that will ever be again. Goodnight love."

"I know. Goodnight." She rolled over and fell asleep as I quietly left. I'd almost forgotten about Kaden until I walled into my room to find him sitting in the corner sobbing.

"K, c'mere.", I said softly. He shakily stood up and shuffled over to the bed, collapsing next to me and half in my lap as he continued sobbing. "Shh, I know. I know kid. It's gonna be okay."

"Sh-She's not coming ba-back this time!"

"Calm down Kaden. You're gonna make yourself sick." He took a few minutes to calm down before sitting up,

"She's not getting better this time Alex."

"Do you wanna go down there? I'll stay with you." He shook his head,

"No. She made me promise I'd never see her like that and I don't want to. We've said our goodbyes."

"If... that... happens, you'll move in here."

"What? Alex-"

"I promise abuela I'd watch out for you and that's exactly what I'm gonna do. You're sixteen. You shouldn't be on your own yet and until you can or longer, I'm gonna take care of you. End of story."

"Alex you don't have to do that."

"I want to. And I'm going to."

"I know.", his voice cracked. I hugged him tightly as he took deep breaths, doing his best to stay calm. "Can-Can we get this over with? I-I just wanna be sad and not feel guilty." I nodded,

"Yeah. Over the bed kid." He did as told as I stood up and took my belt from my dresser,

WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK!

I put my belt down as Kaden crawled up into my bed. I laid next to him as he curled up by my side,

"I forgive you. Everything's gonna be okay eventually."

"I know. I just want it to be okay now."

"Me too kid."

Kaden slipped into the kitchen around noon the next day,

"Abuela died last night.", he whispered. I walled over, hugging him tightly,

"I'm so sorry K." He nodded a little crying into my chest. "What do you wanna do next?"

"I don't know.", he sniffled, stepping back, "I don't know what I'm supposed to do. You tell me."

"I can't tell you what to do here kid. But I can tell you the things you have to do eventually that I'll gladly help you with." He nodded. "We need to pack your things and move them here probably first. Then we'll work on going through the rest of the house. You'll need to tall with her lawyers about her will and possessions. You figure out what you think is best funeral wise and I'll handle the rest." He nodded,

"Will you help me with the house? I-I don't think I can be there alone."

"Of course I will."

"Thanks for taking care of me."

"I'm happy to. Really."

"I don't think she would have trusted anyone else."

"Good. She knew I'd watch you."
