1960. Wrappings float upon the dull, yet fashionably patterned carpet. Windows hazy begin to opaque. It's Christmas Day, I do not need to get my bearings as it's the most easily recognisable day for my 6 year old self. The humid air from a houseful of people who are stranger’s everyday of every year apart from this day fill my home, leaving cloying scents, overbearing scents, and stale cigarettes. My nose itches. I play with my etch a sketch, drawing but not needing lead. I sketch yet I can't actual draw. Can't sketch either. But, I have imagination they say.
Grandmother Lillian clasps my younger brother James. He's strange. His cheeks are chubby, clammy and he cries, a boy with a loss of sanity. Rips the wrappings from his fact book of a maddening jungle with no regard or thought as Grandmother Lillian encourages him. Yet she'd quickly snap at him if he'd had the thought to eat dinner before grace.
