The crisp air sent chills up Sadé's spine as she settled under her favorite tree on campus. With a new semester under way and the jumpstart into her studies for one of her many classes, Sadé seemed fairly confident and calm for this year. The one thing on her mind other than her studies was her best friend, Harry. She had spent at least a week readying the apartment they chose to stay in together right off campus. Knowing he'd be arriving soon, she couldn't wait to surprise him with all that she had done to make the apartment feel like a home. Deciding to live together this year for the first time since becoming friends finally felt right, although they've always been attached.

The two had spent the beginning of their friendship defending themselves and each other in high school. They were considered outcasts for who they were. Harry at the time was simply a foreign exchange student from England with an accent the kids in the United States claimed they couldn't understand. When he met Sadé while they were freshman's in high school, they immediately befriended one another because of the kindness they exchanged. Meeting Sadé has been the best thing to happen to Harry since being in the states. For Sadé, she felt the same. She finally had a friend. Someone who didn't belittle her because of her quietness. Someone who accepted her for her intelligence, someone who didn't doubt her gift to quickly learn inside of education.

The mean kids in school did not stop Harry from continuing in the foreign exchange program for he found a great reason to stay. Although his shyness often made him a vulnerable target, it was Sadé's friendship that kept him sane. Before he showed up Sadé was often taunted and picked at. She was named the typical nerd and brainiac but what hurt her feelings the most were those who doubted her smarts because of her color. Society always made an effort to tarnish the image of the black community. It often made Sadé feel hopeless but being granted with Harry's presence, someone who took the time to understand her and those alike, gave her hope.

Their friendship blossomed from there and the last three years that followed, only got better as they grew into themselves. After graduating high school, Harry went back to his home in England but soon returned to join Sadé in college. He realized that being away from her made him feel indifferent and lonesome. She's always been so kind to him, and quite frankly, he just couldn't let his first and best friend go.

As Sadé looked over her class schedule, she took an apple out of her tote bag. She took a bite as a quick snap followed the chunk that left the apple. She slowly chewed, allowing the crunch of the cold fruit to soften. Although she's outside, with no one around to be quiet for, her manners surfaced as if she were sitting at a dinner with family. Sadé always did everything so delicately.

It's what Harry loves about her most.

Sadé continues to eat her snack. Once she's finished she wraps the apple core in a napkin and sets it aside to throw away whenever she'd get up from sitting under the tree. She tucked her hands into the sleeves of her brown sweater. The autumn air fluctuated between the breeze and keeping the air still. She really loved the season of autumn more than any other and so did Harry.

Harry loved the warm autumn colors and everything sweet that came with the season. For every year Harry and Sadé spent together, autumn brought them closer. Being homebodies worked to their advantage. Harry would go to Sadé's house every weekend in the month of October. They'd pick up warm drinks, the sweetest of baked goods and then watch movies all weekend. Now that they'd be living together, Harry felt most excited for those moments again, more often than not. The first two years of college kept them both so busy in their studies that they barely had movie nights, but Harry's determination to change that was at the top of his list for this semester, among other things.

Sadé checked her phone for the time, only to realize that Harry texted her ten minutes ago.

"Oh shoot," She whispered to herself and immediately stood up, gathering all of her belongings.
