Getting To Know You (Part 1).

Start from the beginning

Xavier took two steps back which made my hand drop. He then scoffed and rubbed his hands on his face. He looked upset. Really upset.

"So your brilliant plan to get me to talk to you was by calling me, crying might I add, and tell me you got held at gunpoint, are badly hurt and got robbed?"

"Yeah?" I questioned more than stated.

"Are you crazy?!"
There goes the yelling again.
"Do you have any idea how worried I was? The thoughts and images I got in my head after I heard you 'fake cry' scared me to death, Veronica!"
I am pretty sure I screwed up again.

"Xav, I am so sorry. I just wanted to talk-"

He cut me off again with another bone crushing hug.
"Don't ever do that to me again," he whispered. "Never put me through hell like that Veronica. Never."

I nodded my head in silence as I hugged him back.
"No. A nod wont do. I need you to promise me that not only would you never lie to me like that but will do everything in your power to stay away from trouble."

"I promise, Xav."
His arms only tightened a little more after that. It didn't hurt though surprisingly. It felt good. I felt safe.

He let me go after a few more seconds, taking the warmth with him.

He gave me a small smile after that and said, "This is ridiculous. I cant even stay mad at you."

I smiled back, flipped my hair in exaggeration and said, "Well, what can I say? I am a marvel to be around."

"Okay, okay, enough of that now. Now that you have gotten me here, where do you want to go?"

I smiled from ear to ear after I heard that. "There is this ice cream parlour down the road and I feel like eating a chocolate chip ice cream."

"Of course you do," he said, smile still intact. "Come on, lets get that ice cream in your stomach."

He then took my hand in his and we both walked towards the car. Call it cliché but being around Xavier with his hand in mine always got that tingling sensation in my stomach. I felt safe, cared about and the worry with which he held me when he thought I was hurt was evidence of that.

In no time we reached the ice cream parlour. I went ahead to find us a table to sit while he got our ice creams. I found a table for two at the back, next to the window. After about two minutes he joined me, ice creams in hand.

"I got you double scoop for safety," he said as he handed me my cup.

"You're smart."

"I know," he said as he sat down.

I looked at the cup in his hand and raised an eyebrow in question. "You like butterscotch?"

He looked up and replied, "Yeah, I always have. It was my dad's favourite, actually."

"Care to tell me more about your parents?" I asked hesitantly.

This time he didn't seem guarded or upset. Instead he had a small smile on his face as he replied, "My parents were the two most loving people in the entire world. They were madly in love with each other. Every time they saw each other after coming home from their respective places of work, they got this excited gleam in their eyes. Kelsi and I always spoke about how we wished to find someone who loved us just like my parents loved each other. It might be a little too soon but for what its worth, it seems like Simon really cares about her."

"He does," I said. I hadn't ever seen him this involved in a relationship. Usually, he was the one night stand kinda guy but I always felt that that was just the football teams influence. He was a really nice person at heart.
