Chapter Seventeen

Start from the beginning

Then we had to go on. We were dancing to We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift.

Everything was fine until Scott and Brad had to lift me up so I could do a scorpion for a few seconds before spinning and landing back in their arms. It was going perfectly until they caught me and while they were placing me back on my feet Scotts hand grabbed my ass.

I looked over shocked before he flashed me a devious grin.

Part of me was shocked but I had to shake it off as I ran and did a triple front hand spring ending with a full before landing in the splits.

The crowd erupted into applause and for once I actually had to force my smile.

The whole team faded away as I stood up from my splits and Brad came to stand beside me.

Heavy in Your Arms by Florence and the Machine started playing signaling us to start our duet.

Once our dance ended the crowd cheered and my smile was genuine because I had forgotten everything that happened with Scott only moments before.

We rushed off stage as another team ran on.

We nearly collided into Kalina.

“Ustedes eran increíbles! Felicitaciones.” She said before hugging me. “You guys were amazing.” She said quickly clarifying.

“Thanks.” I laughed.

I noticed that Brad had disappeared and that confused me because I thought he’d want to talk to Kalina.

“Well…that’s it.” She said sighing. “It’s over, everything’s done.”

“It’s kind of sad.” I nodded. “I’ll miss the dancing but…I can deal without some of these people.” I murmured so only she could hear.

“I knew you were mad at me!” She said while jokingly crossing her arms and sticking her chin in the air.

“Oh, you got me.” I put my hands up in mock defeat.

“Kalina?” Brad said interrupting our fake fight.

“Ya?” She said turning to him and redoing her pony tail.

“I was wondering if…you’d want to go on a date with me sometime?” He said while nervously handing her a bouquet of flowers that he had hidden behind his back.

She looked stunned and happy as she took the flowers from him. “I would love to.” She said smiling.

“Kalina!” We all flinched as Nadia snapped at her.

“Ugh.” She groaned with her shoulders drooping. “I’ll be back.”

As she walked away I jokingly bumped Brad. “I thought you were going to wait until we won?”

“I was going to but…I decided if we didn’t win I would chicken out so I wanted to ask her before we found out.”

Nearly three hours later after a lot of cheer poker which Kalina and I had made up, your money was scrunchies, make up, shoes, socks, and pom poms; the guys didn’t play long, but we were finally back on the stage awaiting the final scores for this season.

That’s when I realized that this would be my only competition since it was my senior year. My old cheer team was never good enough to make it this far.

Before I had time to really think about the cheer teams were called; and we were second.  They handed us the second place trophy and of course Nadia was the one to snatch it from their hands. It wasn’t as great as it could’ve been but we weren’t last out of the three teams here.
