Looking down on her, Helen noticed something. There was a loose button on her uniform.

“Oh no … I can’t stay like this”

Right there she realised something. Not too long ago Helen had put a spare uniform in classroom 124.

Evelynn: And because everything I write happens …

Evelynn looks around and sees the uniform.

Evelynn: Here we have the uniform! Exactly where “Helen” put it.

Evelynn wears the uniform.

Evelynn: Fits perfectly. Now let’s get out of here and get enrolled at this school

Evelynn wants to leave the room, but runs into Helen.

Evelynn: Oh, sorry. That was my fault.

Helen: It’s all good, we both didn’t look where we were going. Are you a student at this school? I haven’t seen you around.

Evelynn: Yeah! Today is my first day!

Helen: Have a nice first day then.

Evelynn: Thank you. I’ll see you around maybe.

Helen: See you around.

Evelynn leaves the room

Evelynn is in the hallway.

Evelynn: That was so close. I should of known that she would come. I was the person that made her think about it. I need to keep my thinking straight. Let’s enroll me in this school.

Evelynn gets her book and starts writing

With a bad excuse she ran off to get another uniform. Helen had no idea she would run into the new girl in her class. She gave her best to be nice. But everyone at school knew how bittersweet she was. One second she was nice, the other she gossiped about you behind your back. That was Helen.

Evelynn: Okay, I’m kinda enrolled now since I referred to myself as the “new girl”. Now quickly off to class.

Evelynn starts running down the hallway.

Hester is standing in front of Evelynn.

Hester: Can I help you? You seem lost.

Evelynn: Uh, no. I mean yes, I am new here.

Hester: I figured. Do you know where you have to go?

Evelynn: I think so? I’m supposed to attend classes with that one girl. Her name’s Helen.

Hester: Oh … makes sense. She was probably supposed to show you around. She’s one of those typical, popular people. Don’t worry about her too much.

Evelynn: I - I wont. Do you maybe know what classes she has?

Hester: I haven’t memorised her entire timetable. But we have the first lesson together, so I could show you where that is?

Evelynn: That’d be nice, thank you so much. May I ask what your name is?

Hester: Oh, I totally forgot to tell you my name, I’m Hester.

Evelynn: Nice to meet you, Hester. I’m Evelynn.

Hester: What a nice name. Now let’s get to class or else we’ll probably be late.

Evelynn sits in class now.

Teacher: Welcome back class! Today is monday, which is … not too great. But let me tell you something exciting! We have two new students! It is very unusual to change schools so late in the year … There is literally one month left of school. Anyways, let them introduce themselves. Would you two please come to the front?

Evelynn and another girl stand up from their seats and go to the front.

Evelynn: Hello. I’m Evelynn and I just moved to this town. My favourite subject is English because I am really into books.

Alexa: My name is Alexa and I am new to this town too.

Teacher: Is there anything else you’d like to tell the class?

Alexa: Not really. Thank you.

Teacher: Okay, then please go and take your seats. Let’s continue with analysing the book we read.

The bell rings and the lesson is over.

Teacher: I’ll see you all tomorrow and don’t forget to do your readings.

Part of the class leave

Teacher: Uhm, Alexa, Evelynn? I’d like to talk to you, would you mind to stay a bit longer?

Alexa: Of course not

She and Evelynn walk up to the teacher.

Teacher: Well, like every year the school is holding a play. Sadly you two got to this school too late to get main roles. But if you want to take part, I could give you two some background roles. Or you could help with the costumes.

Alexa: I’d be happy with any part.

Teacher: I’ll write your name down then. What about you, Evelynn?

Evelynn: Me too please,

Teacher: The next rehearsal is tomorrow morning. Lucky you, people who are in the play don’t have classes this week. I will see you then.

After school Alexa was all alone. Looking like a lost duck, she approached Helen and her friend.

“Hi, I’m Alexa”

“You’re the new girl, right?”

“Yup, that’s me … So you see, I just moved here and  was waffleing … I mean I wondered wether I could hang out with you two?”

“Sure.”

“We were just about to go shopping.”

“The name’s Helen. And that’s Laurel.”

“Nice to meet you”

Evelynn is sitting on her bed and writing the book when Clarissa comes in.

Clarissa: What are you writing

Evelynn: Well, turns out I’m not the only new student at that school. She’s got black hair and blue eyes. I think she might be the main character.

Clarissa: So … she looks like you?

Evelynn: I meant that she looks like a typical main character.

Clarissa: Sure. Have you started writing the story out of her perspective?

Evelynn: Yup, it’s going great. There is actually a play this Friday. You know what that means?

Clarissa: Your book is ending this Friday?? I haven’t even found my story yet and you’re so close to finishing yours!

Evelynn: And what about Al?

Clarissa: I don’t know, he’s still not home. That guy has stamina.

Evelynn: Yeah. Do you know where the nearest library is? I think it’s time to give the Library a progress report.

Clarissa: Already?? Oh wow, I really need to find my story.

Evelynn: I’m sure you’ll find it soon.

Clarissa: Yeah, hopefully … I think I’ll go and look for it now. You can find the library with Google Maps.

Clarissa leaves the room

Evelynn: Nooo, I don’t know how that works!

Evelynn jumps back on her bed and closes her eyes

Evelynn: Ugh.
