Now the old man was dead, everything he had would be his.

Two days ago, Chen Yang sat on the bedside of his biological father, as the sole heir of the Zhao family.

"I have regrets...if I had known of your existence a few years earlier, you would have a chance to be even more outstanding than you are today!" Interrupted by a sudden bout of coughing, the old man, whose condition worsened quickly in the past few days, grasped Chen Yang's hand in his, with a look of relief.

"Everything I have will be yours. All the family assets. Yang Yang, you are my only inheritor now..."

Hearing these heartfelt words from his father, the ghost of a smile lingered on Chen Yang's face, although there wasn't much warmth in it. He interrupted the old man: "you sent men to tail me, half a month ago."

The old man's eyes widened. Chen Yang patted the back of his withered hand, still smiling: "I don't like it for others to get into my business."

Although Chen Yang's overly intimate behavior around Chen An had aroused the suspicion of the old man, who apparently would not endorse a relationship between his sole heir and another man, he fell ill before he could take actions.

"You are right, actually. Everything you had will be mine. You took no responsibilities as a father, but it doesn't matter any more. You can compensate me, once and for all."

Under the surprised and confused look of the old man, Chen Yang got out of his pocket a small bottle containing a transparent liquid, and poured it slowly into the IV.

"What, what are you doing?" The old man struggled and tried to pull the needle on the back of his hand, but Chen Yang held them firmly in place.

"Help, help, help me-" he felt his heart pumping as if crazy, and a helplessness welled up and engulfed him. His eyes were still fixed on Chen Yang as a strong wave of sleep overwhelmed him. The man's eyes slowly closed.
"Sleep tight. As your heir, I'm gonna bring the family to a height you cannot even imagine. "

Taking back his hand from the old man's grasp, Chen Yang glanced at the ECG machine sitting by. In 24 hours, the old man's heart would stop beating and he would be dead for good.

Two days later.

"Yang yang, you should send the old woman out of the Zhao family. And stop all contacts with the Chen family!" Chen Yang's mother had changed into her usual, pretty clothes after the funeral. She spoke in a tone of command as she put on her jewelry.
Chen Yang was looking at his phone with his head dipped. He answered absent-mindedly: "you wanna go and be with the old man?"

The diamond earring which was held to her ear fell from her hand onto the floor. She looked at her dear son with disbelief: "Yangyang, what are you talking about? I'm your mother!"
"If you don't want to go and be with him, you better shut up." Putting his phone away, Chen Yang turned and walked to his mother. He spoke in a low tone, and the cold, gloomy look on his face was something she'd never seen before. She was too scared to say another word.

She'd intended to chided Chen Yang and maintain her authority as his mother, and yet she felt cold as Chen Yang walked by.
...

Changes came up, taking everyone by surprise.

In the past few years, the few of them had formed a life that could be called 'normal', more or less, a life away from war and conflicts. The company was restructured; Chen An went on tours around the world, doing charity work in honor of Changle. And most of the time, Lu Feng stayed by his side.
Several months ago, however, there appeared on the internal arena a man who called himself "the Old Fox". He, leading his men, took over a lot of ground in a very short time, meanwhile carving up a large piece of the cake that used to belong to the Brothers Group.
Ding Sheng had worked for a few months on the case, and yet still he could not find out where the man came from. In spite of Ding Sheng's efforts to keep it from Chen An, he got word of the matter. Even though he was no longer in the business, he had his eyes and ears.

And there was no way Chen An would sit by while some charlatan abused his name. Thus he called together those he trusted, to investigate this fake. Ivanov and Lu Feng were to carry out their investigations under the table, while Ding Sheng did it in his capacity as a member of the Interpol.

Chen An was a cautious man. At the same time, he was also a man who let down his guards towards those he trusted.

Lu Feng got his opportunity because of this. And now when Chen An saw Chen Yang who was not supposed to be here appear before him, for a moment, he forgot to breathe.

"Chen Yang...but why?" Everything seemed to fall into its place when he saw Chen Yang. He looked at the young man who'd now graduated, and stood tall and handsome before him, and felt heavy at heart.

"I'm truly sorry. But I can't share you with the others."

Unexpectedly, Chen An didn't chide or call the man who betrayed him names. As he was taken to a hospital bed and had all sorts of odd equipments attached to him, Chen An only looked at Chen Yang, who also looked back at him.

"Please don't do it."

"Put him on anesthesia." Without answering Chen An, Chen Yang told the doctor standing beside him.
Turning away, Chen Yang avoided Chen An's eyes, in which there were disappointment, confusion and anger.
What happened between Lu Feng and Chen An offered an counter-example for Chen Yang. Locking Chen An up would only drive the two of them crazy, and that was not what Chen Yang wanted.

He wanted Chen An, a Chen An that loved him, and him alone.

"Sir. We're ready to start." A doctor came up.

Chen Yang held up his hand, and pressing down, he said: "start."

It was not right. He knew. But he could barely contain the excitement in his heart.

With his back towards Chen An, Chen Yang could nonetheless see through the reflection on the window pane the man constrained to the equipment. When the button was turned on, he could see the anesthesized Chen An begin to tremble. The doctors had informed him beforehand, that the process of rewriting one's memories could hurt a little.

And the more the patient resisted, the more it hurt. In the majority of cases, just a little bit.

But maybe more than that for Chen An.
When the man again woke up, he'd forgotten Chen Changle, forgotten Ivanov, Lu Feng, and Ding Sheng. He'd also forgotten Chen Yang.

"Who are you?"

This man who'd forgotten everything and everyone opened his clear and bright eyes, and examined Chen Yang, with a guarded look.
It wasn't exactly what Chen Yang had expected. According to the literature he went through, most people, after having their memories wiped, would wake up feeling very insecure, and usually they would take the first person they saw as someone they could trust.
Such was not the case with Chen An.
From the frequency he blinked, Chen An apparently felt very confused and insecure with all his memories gone or jumbled up; still, he was not fragile and helpless like those people Chen Yang had read about in the documents.

"I'm Chen Yang."

The man's tone was unpertubed: "I don't know you."

"You did. You just forgot it."

The past was not important. What's important was that Chen An's future belonged with him.

Chen An's recovery went faster than Chen Yang anticipated. In the first few days while his memories was still all tangled up, Chen An refused to leave his room. It offered him security and warmth, like a mother's womb.
But the man was Chen An, even when he forgot everything that happened.
Chen Yang had thought Chen An would be a blank page when he woke up. Whereas with all his memories gone, the traces people left on him were also removed, he truly and entirely became Chen An, or in other words, Chen Chang'an as he had been his earlier years.

Therefore, Chen Yang now had, instead of the Chen An that he was familiar with, Chen Chang'an.

"What's this?" Chen Chang'an spoke of his own initiative to Chen Yang, which was a rare occurance.

After he woke up, Chen Chang'an had displayed an indifference to most people and things around him. And to

Chen Yang's words, he rarely gave responses other than "leave me alone" while he sat and read.

This was new for Chen Yang, but no less attractive.

"It's an SLGP226 semi-automatic handgun." As he picked up the gun, Chen Yang saw very clearly, that a light came into the man's eyes.
