Whisps of silky blonde hair danced in the breeze as the young girl strode carelessly down the street, unaware of my gaze. The sound of my converse tapping the pavement filled my ears as I watched the girl reach her front door. Patience, I had to remind myself. The wait would be over in a few short hours. I leaned back against the alley wall, letting my eyes take in the burnt orange sky as the sun set behind the hills. A low growl escaped my lips as my thoughts settled on the young girl I had been watching all day.

Ariel, a vile girl, and classmate of mine. I would liken her more to a troll than a human. She was your classic mean girl who looked down her nose at everyone except for her two friends. How those girls stand to be around her, I will never know.

I watched from the crowd as Ariel left her last class of the day. She paused for what felt like an eternity to talk about meaningless things with her friends in front of her locker. The trio snickered loudly as one of the heavier girls who attended the school passed by. The girl buried her face in her books in shame as she hurried out of the building. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep my rage at bay while watching this scene unfold. Ariel was full of prejudice and hatred for no reason. Karma would surely catch up with her one of these days.

Finally, Ariel finished her conversation and started her return trip to her home. Staying some distance behind her, I followed her. My eyes were glued to my phone like it was the most interesting thing in the world as I appeared to mindlessly continue down the path. As we approached her house, I slightly changed my course and ducked into an alley across the street. Here I began the agonizingly long wait for nightfall.

After counting the bricks in the wall ahead of me for what seemed to be the hundredth time, I turned my attention to the two-story tan home in front of me. A light was still on in one of the second-story windows. My suspicions were confirmed as Ariel came into view to flip a switch on the wall, causing the room to go dark except for the faint glow from a tv somewhere.

I felt butterflies of excitement stir in my stomach as I jumped to my feet. Like a shadow, I slipped silently through the night to the gnarled oak tree outside of Ariel's window. The knots in the old bark made the tree easy to climb. Without much effort, I found myself on the largest branch parallel to the window. Peering inside, I could make out Ariel's sleeping form on the large king sized bed. Her chest rose and fell in a rhythm that confirmed she was already asleep.

Inching along the branch, I found myself in front of her window. My arms easily stretched the short distance as I silently lifted the heavy wood frame. My sneakers found the carpet of her bedroom floor without a sound. I set my backpack on the floor beside me and reached inside for a roll of duct tape. Ripping off a couple of inches, I wasted no time slapping the piece over the sleeping girl's mouth. Her eyes spot open, terror washed over her face as her eyes looked over my body. The beginnings of a smile curled from my lips as I followed her gaze to my stomach...or lack thereof. Instead, our eyes fell on a boney spine with some stringy bits of dead flesh hanging off of the vertebra. My smile grew wider as the tape muffled Ariel's attempts to scream.

My hand reached around in the dark, feeling for something sharp inside my backpack. A prick on the tip of my finger let me know I had found what I had been searching for. I caressed the girl's soft cheek with my blade, looking directly into her ocean-blue eyes.

"Dear Ariel, why are you so panicked? Don't you recognize me?" My voice called out sweetly to her, sharply contrasting my twisted grin. Recognition flashed for a moment in the young blonde's eyes before terror once again glazed over them.

"So, you do know who I am after all," I chuckled. "I'm a little shocked you even remember me, there were so many of us who you tormented, I wasn't sure you could tell us apart."

My blade left her cheek, tracing from her neck down to her chest, finally settling just above her abdomen. Saliva began to gather in the back of my throat, which I had to swallow back.

"Don't worry doll, I don't have any hard feelings anymore. I like what you've turned me into. My only job tonight is to serve Karma." The corners of my mouth twisted up into a wicked grin and I imagined what was to come. A metallic scent filled the small bedroom as I applied pressure to my blade. Ariel's eyes widened in panic at the sudden pressure. A riven ran from the ocean of her eyes as she tried once again in vain to scream for help. This only encouraged me to cut deeper, enjoying the scene before me.

I finally pulled my blade from the girl's stomach and admired the wide gash left behind. Ariel's eyes had begun to roll back as the blood poured from her body.

"Not yet, it isn't time." I slapped her cheeks to keep her conscious. Her head jerked back upright, and she continued to try to put up a fight. I giggled at her antics.

Once again reaching for my bag, I felt around until I heard the crinkling of foil. My teeth flashed as I unwrapped the foil and offered the cheeseburger to Ariel.

"Are you hungry?" I asked the girl who already looked a little green since she had seen me. She stared warily at the burger as I lowered it from her mouth to her stomach. My gaze met hers as I stuffed the burger, foil and all, into the fresh hole in her abdomen. Ariel's head jerked back again as she nearly slipped back into unconsciousness. Knowing time was not on my side at this point, I hastily stuffed another burger and a handful of fries into the wound as well. Reaching into the back pocket of my pants, I found a needle threaded with a strong fishing wire. With practiced precision, I sewed the angry red flesh back together. I broke out in a fit of laughter as I admired my masterpiece.

"Look who the fat one is now, Ariel." Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as my prey let out one more weak cry, exasperating my laughing fit.

"I'm sorry, the irony always gets me. Did you have any final words?" My fingers met the edge of the tape and roughly pulled it away. My poor prey was too weak to scream anymore as were eyes glazed over with pain and exhaustion. Her shallow breathing was the only sound that filled the room.

"Even in death, you can't apologize for your sins? No matter. Tell the devil Slim Slaughter sent you." The merciful being that I am brought the cool steel to her throat and swiftly extinguished her.
