Louis Tomlinson was 13 years old when he developed his first "real" crush. Being young, it was normal for the boys and girls to date each other so they could have fun before they met their soulmates. Louis liked a girl named Jess, just a normal girl; long brown curly hair, green eyes, slightly taller than Louis, he fell head over heels rather quickly.
Louis would explain to his friends that he saw Jess in his dreams constantly so he was sure that she was his soulmate. He just never got the balls to go up to her and check her wrist.
Years passed, Louis never working up enough courage to ask out Jess, or even talk to her for that matter. He was 18 now, out of school and ready to take on the world, with or without his soulmate. The strange thing is, Louis never stopped seeing the curly brown haired girl in his dreams every night. He'd wake up in hot sweats almost every morning for six years straight.
Louis POV I woke up late today, no sweating or dreams of her for the first time in six years, it was relieving but worrying. What if i had waited too long and now she was gone, no soulmate, no wife, no family. That was everyones plan for life, i could be executed if i lost my soulmate.
My friend stan always told the story of the boy who waited too long to find a wife, after he turned 21 he was never seen again.
"I'm probably overreacting", i reassured myself.
I got ready and ran down the stairs, gave my mom a kiss on the cheek and went to work. I worked at a coffee shop, just for now until i figure out what i wanna do with my life.
I ran in, being 5 minutes late, fuck my phone for dying overnight. I tied my apron behind my back and clocked in before my manager could notice. She was a sweet old woman though, absolutely oblivious of everything unless it had to do with baking or making coffee.
"Oh Louis good you're here" she greeted me with a soft pat on the small of my back. "You are going to be training a new kid today. His name is Harry and hes 16. Said something about having a job could increase his chance of meeting his soulmate blah blah blah" She laughed to herself and walked away.
For an old woman with little memory she sure did know how to talk.
It had been an hour, only two customers were seated so i scrolled through instagram on my phone, liking random girls' photos with a hope they'd dm me for some reason. But the girl from my dreams was always in the back of my head.
The bell rang signaling someone was walking in. I stuffed my phone into my back pocket and perked up making eye contact with the customer.
My breathing stopped, in walked the most gorgeous man i had ever seen, fluffy brown hair, green piercing eyes, with the oddest purple sweat pants.
I must have been caught in my daze for too long because his deep voice snapped me out of my trance.
"Hello, 'm Harry" he held out a hand. He wore a hoodie with the sleeves all the way down to his palm. Thats weird if hes trying to find a soulmate. Wouldn't it be beautiful if he was mine and this is how we met?
Wait, no. Hes a man, well a boy, and im a boy. Thats illegal and i'll be sent away for weeks.
I swallowed hard, " 'm Louis, nice to meet you, im your trainer today." i said with a smile. "Come on back and i'll show you the ropes. You might wanna take off that hoodie though it gets pretty warm back here." i chuckled and showed him back to the lockers so he could drop his stuff off.
I watched him take off his hoodie and it made his shirt go up slightly so i could see the dimples in his back. I dont know why i was paying attention, its okay to be curious about how people look.
He turned to me, "okay lets get to work" he said shaking my hand again, what an odd kid. I looked down at our hands touching glancing at his wrist, ya know just in case.
"Oh are ya trying to see my soulmate mark" he asked. I nodded slowly. He held his arm out proudly, "odd star shape, i've always thought it was quite ugly yo be honest with you, and i'm stuck with it until i find this dreaded girl whos stuck with me for life"
My breathing completely stopped. He had my symbol. No thats impossible, we're both boys. Being gay is illegal and the government would never make a mistake like this.
"I-i are you a girl" i asked still struggling to breath.
He let out a loud laugh, "A girl ? do i look like one? It must be my thick cheeks huh" he giggled.
But i didn't. I stared at him terrified.
"Harry" i put my left hand on his shoulder. "You have my symbol." i said it with no emotion in my voice.
"Ha thats a good one bud, you're funny, we'll get along great." He started to walk away and i grabbed his wrist to pull him back toward me.
"I wouldn't lie. Look" i shoved my wrist in my face.
It looked as if he went through 100 emotions all at once, but the last one was anger.
"I'm not some fucking faggot. Get the hell away from me! You probably drew that on while i wasn't looking. God, ya know my dad told me thered be creeps like you. You're nothing more than a sinner and a faggot. I'm gonna go tell someone, impersonating a soulmate is a serious offense especially when you make it-" he gagged, "gay". He started to walk away but i stopped him again and pulled him into the tiny break room locking the door behind me.
"You think i wanna be a faggot? Ill get sent to conversion therapy or worse they'll kill me, or both of us." i whisper yelled at him, our faces inches away so no one else could hear us.
"Oh please." he stopped and stepped closer so our noses were almost touching. "Why does this feel right" he whispered and the feeling of his hot breath on my lips sent shivers down my spine.
"Because we're soulmates. I don't know what mistake they made, or if we're just some enomilly that can't be explained, but we can't do anything about it, we have to hide this forever or go apply for new soulmates, say ours died or something."
He shook his head, "we're faggots, they'll find out and they'll kill us. This has only happened once before and they killed him when he tried to explain the situation. We're just defects" he spoke calmly.
i wanted to kiss him. I needed too. So i did. The feeling is indescribable. I was floating. I loved him and i had just met him. He was my soulmate and i was gonna do everything to keep him.
