this chapter is inspired by -urlocxlrxptor. her book is amazing and she is an amazing person. i honestly don't know what i would do without her right now. also i'm just going to start dedicating it to whoever gave me an idea
so what if dobby always kept that sock on him, he would wear it everyday and if he wears different socks, he would keep that sock in his pocket and when he washes it (let's imagine it's a washing machine to go with this) he would stare at the washing machine so the sock doesn't vanish. and he's not doing this for sentiment. he's doing it because he still can't accept the fact that he's free and that sock is a reminder that he has a choice in his life now and he's not tied back by the malfoys, he apparated to slow to live because he was looking for his sock as being back in the manor brought back the trauma he had gone through and he needed his lifeline. his safe space. when he died, he smiled as he realised that the knife had pierced through the sock and lodged itself into his heart. this is when dobby could finally accept that he was a free elf.
