Chapter One
_________Kai__________
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Rain wet the pavement in small drops. It was one of those days where the sky was an omnious grey as if the world was telling me I would have a bad day. Breathing in deeply I grabbed an umbrella, adjusted the collar of my uniform and walked out the door. "Kai-kun! don't forget your wallet." my mother's voice yelled behind me. Grabbing it from her I forced a small smile and thanked her. Today was one of her good days, as long as I played along her mental balence was okay. Another deep breath and I started walking to the school. On the way there small groups of other first years walked together under their umbrellas chatting exciditly. Friends from their previous school I guess. Before I realized it I was by the front gates. A girl bumped into me "Ah, I'm sorry." she looked up and turned bright red and ran off.
The enterance cermony ended and everyone scrambled to find their classes. Instead of running around before the bell rang I took my time walking. When I finally came to the class everyone was seated, staring at me probably wondering why I was late. Passing the teacher a note he looked over it and said "Ah..yes..Class this is Nakamura Kai. Ranked number one in national exams. You all won't see much of him but I thought I'd introduce you since it's better you don't think he's a delinquint. He he." I gave a slight bow to the teacher and started walking out of the room, ignoring all the questions if I had a girlfriend or not. Turning out of the doorway I bumped into someone and landed on the ground. Grimancing I opened my eyes and saw a tall slender guy with black hair tied up. "Ah, my ba-" His hand reached out but I simply stood up and brushed myself off. Giving him a look that clearly told him he was an idiot I walked off. "Hey! wait! aren't you supposed to go to class?" his voice rang out behind me.
The school had given me special privilages since my IQ and exam marks were genius level. As long as I came to class for tests I could study on my own in the library and was exempted from p.e classes. Finding a spot between booksheleves I layed down and closed my eyes. A voice suddenly said "So here you were." I opened my eyes to see the same guy from the hallway standing above me. He grinned and said "I didn't feel like going to class either and you seem interesting. I'm Sho Fujimura." I squinted at him and sat up looking for the notepad in my bag next to me. I sqribbled "I'm mute and I'd appericate it if you'd leave me alone."
He looked at it and ran a hand thru his hair " Ah so that's why you haven't said anything and come on everyone needs friends right?" I shook my head and wrote "Not me. But thanks." He shrugged and said "Well, if you ever need one Kai-kun just find me." and he left the room. I breathed in deep and sighed in relief. In the distance I heard the bell buzz and I put my headphones on and drifted to a sweet dream.

Tch. I left the library scratching my head. What a strange and cold guy. I slid the class door open and sat at my desk. The teacher noticed and scolded me "Fujimura-kun please try and stay in class. It's just the first day." "Yeah, teach" I replied. As she went on about literature I stretched out on my desk and looked out the window, spacing out. Before I knew it, the bell sounded and class was over. Some girls came up to me and tried grabbing my arms "Sho-kun come to karaoke with us" they wined. "Sorry, ladies I got to go uh.." I shrugged and ran off up the stairs. I finally lost them when I heard what sounded like singing. Climbing more stairs It started to get clearer. It sounded like it was coming from the roof.
"saita no no hana yo
aa douka oshieteokure
hito ha naze kizutsukeatte
arasou no deshou"
(translated)
Oh wild flower,
ah…could you please tell me
why people hurt each other
and fight each other?
In the middle of the roof there was Kai on his knees singing in the pouring rain. His voice sounded so soft and full of pain.
rin to saku hana yo
soko kara nani ga mieru
hito ha naze yurushiau koto
dekinai no deshou
(translated)
Oh dignified flower,
what can you see from there?
And why can’t people
forgive each other?
Running up to him I grabbed him and he didn't seem to notice me at first but then relaxed and sobbed into my arms. After he finally calmed down and we came back inside he looked down and said "Please don't tell anyone about what you saw." "I won't but are you okay? I thought you were mute and what were you doing out in the rain?" He grimanced as if he didn't want to answer. "Fine you don't have to tell me but in exchange let me be your friend. Okay?" Finally looking up at me he looked suprised and cocked his head to the side "It really means that much to you?" I laughed and nodded "I told you, you seem interesting and suprisingly have a delicate voice." Standing up I ruffled his wet hair and said "Well we better get going now, before it gets late."
Kai smiled brightly for the first time and I felt my heart skip a beat. Internally shaking my head I thought what was that?
