Saturday, September 12th.

Being a human is the most beautiful gift that each of us have been given. To be a human is to share our lives with the world around us and to be able to communicate and live in ways that no other species can. We have the ability to move in beautiful ways, to fabricate beautiful things, and create beautiful noise. We as humans have the ability to be emotionally vulnerable and express ourselves in an infinite number of ways.

But to act humanely is a decision we get to make every day, every minute, and every second of our lives. To be 'humane' means so many things. We as humans have the power to nurture and grow and share and create; we as humans have the power to kill and fight and isolate and destroy. How lucky are we to be able to connect to each other in a deeper way than any other creature on this planet? To love one another, to be a part of a family, a community? It is that question that makes me ponder why there are so many disturbing, vulgar, disgusting events in the world today and why human beings are choosing darkness over kindness.

I spend the morning writing thoughts down in my journal, still fishing for the perfect subject for my story. If I don't find it soon, I am going to have to settle for a cliché, one that will risk my acceptance into the program.
