Panes in the window, frames
Louvered planter box
bulbs within, stirring
just after solstice.
Blue jay nest
sloppy sticks
abandoned.
Smoke
from my neighbor's chimney
warmth within
for him.
Gas grill barbecue
crusted sizzle
cold to touch.
Spider swinging
indecision:
up or down?
Bright plastic tugboat
among fallen leaves
when child moves on.
Wooden loveseat
rotten, unsafe for sitting
but what of love?
Shafts
particulate sunbeams
blessings.
Chimney bricks jumbled, broken,
mossed where they've lain
since the earthquake,
home to lizards.
Ceramic urn held
my brother's ashes
before scattering,
now vintage rainwater
wiggling
black nymphs.
Cracked glass
last summer's
tennis ball.
Utility pole
fate of straight trees
lifting wires
pulse, nerves.
Garbage can
upside down
yesterday when I lifted
turtle eggs glistened
so I set it back
gently
upside down
until spring.
