It couldn't be any colder. Rolling over, [name] cracked open her eyes and blinked a few times. Frost outlined her window, the pale notes of pink and orange coming through the glass. [Name] snuggled into the sheets, trying to savour her last few moments of warmth before she had to get ready.

The alarm sounded, just asking to be slapped as [name] turned it off. She groaned, slowly getting out of bed. [Name] normally loved icy winter mornings, but her alarm clock made them less enjoyable. She took the throw off her bed and draped it around herself, then made some tea. She sat outside and admired the falling snow. Although it was early, children wearing forehead protectors were out training, throwing the occasional snowball. She recognised a few of them. They reminded her that her best friend, Kakashi, would be returning from his latest mission today, hopefully not taking a vacation at the hospital. He was gone for two weeks, and she was starting to miss him. As the breeze picked up, [name] was starting to feel a little cold, so she went back inside.

She put on her uniform and a simple pair of earrings. She shook out her long [h/c] hair after brushing it a few times. [Name] wasn't one to wear makeup, but she was feeling a little special today. She put on some mascara and a light pink lip gloss. Putting on her forehead protector how she liked, she looked in the mirror once more. Perfect. [Name] made herself a light breakfast and some tea. When she finished it, she washed her dishes and left out some feed for the birds.

[Name] put on her coat and a scarf, and slipped on her boots. School today would be more relaxed since the only had a half day. She happily walked along to the Academy. Mizuki must have bribed Lady Tsunade with riches or a sweet treat in order for her to let them out early. The thin layer of snow crunched under [name]'s feet. She smiled at people passing by, bidding a good morning.

[Name] went to her locker and hung up her coat. On her way out, she saw a friendly face holding a cup of coffee.

"Good morning Iruka."

"Good morning [name]," he said, giving his signature sunny smile.

. . .

[Name]'s lessons went by quickly due to the shortened day. She was in the lounge making lesson plans with a few of her colleagues, and she heard faint giggling. She turned her head over her shoulder to look out the window. Her students were in the schoolyard having a snowball fight. They were separated into two teams, each with its own fort. [Name] grabbed her coat and went outside to join them.

She noticed some of their battle tactics were ones she had just taught in class. The thought made [name] smile. She was glad her students responded so well to her teaching. Her unconventional teaching style was one of her many flairs, and her comrades heavily respected her for spitting out talented and hardworking genin. [Name]'s thoughts were interrupted by a snowball hitting the side of her face and melting in her ear. She looked over to see who threw it, a beaming Konohamaru hiding behind his team's fort. [Name] burst into happy laughter as she ran over to join the fun.

"Haha! I did it guys, I got the sensei!" the young Sarutobi exclaimed.

"Oh, it's going to take a lot more than that weak shot to take me down, pal!" she played, scooping up snow to launch her attack. [Name] pegged the snowball at her student, taking him down into the snow. Konohamaru's friends giggled as he pulled his face from the snow. He peddled his little legs in your direction, his dusty blue scarf flowing gallantly behind him.

"Everyone, ATTACK!"

A litter of children came [name]'s way, the snow violently crunching under all their feet. They tackled her and brought her to the ground, but she used a substitution to escape, leaving them confused.

"Uh..w-where'd she go," Udon sniffed.

[Name] chuckled to herself. "Looking for me?"

She gracefully leaped down from the tree.

"Woah, so cool," they chimed.

"That's not all chimichangas," she said.

[Name] did some hand signs and created a sparkly chrome ice dragon from the snow. She waved her arms in a circle, the beautiful beast circling around the crowd's petit bodies. She made it spiral high into the air, letting it disappear.

"Wow [name]-sensei, you're the coolest," a rosy cheeked Moegi awed. "I wanna be just like you!"

The little girl ran to [name] and she gave her a big hug. [Name] patted her fiery hair before she returned to her two friends.

"Hm, you really do have a magical way with kids [name]," said a familiar voice.

"Kakashi!" [name] exclaimed, pulling her friend into a hug. He gently lifted her, giving her a spin. She looked up at him, smiling.

"So how was it? I mean, it must have been pretty ok considering you're not in the hospital."

"Yeah, nothing much, just a simple A-rank, you know," he shrugged.

While most of the other students had left, Konohamaru, Udon, and Moegi stood in front of [name], sporting sly looks on their rosy faces.

"So [name]-sensei," Konohamaru smirked. "Who's the guy?"

"Oh, he's just Kakashi," [name] drawled. "We're childhood friends," she said, giving them a closed-eye smile.

"Oh, hm," they mumbled, looking disappointed.

"Welp, I better get going sensei. I don't wanna be late for lunch with uncle Asuma and his girlfriend."

[Name] and Kakashi giggled for a bit, then, "Wow, they must be getting pretty serious," Kakashi joked.

"Huh," the young boy questioned.

"Haha, yeah. Kurenai said the last person she wanted finding out about their relationship was you," [name] said between giggles.

"Oh please," he groaned. "I knew they were together since day one!"

He stormed off, the other two chasing behind him.

"Bye [name]-sensei!" Udon called out. [Name] gave him a wave as he ran off.

[Name] was now standing in the snowy schoolyard with Kakashi, alone. She glanced at her sightly partner. His silver hair shone in winter's light, making it appear ever so soft. The green scarf around his neck complimented his fair skin and his charcoal eye. Although never willing to publicly admit it, [name] had liked Kakashi for a while. There was just something about his good looks, charming personality, and velvety voice that [name] couldn't help but fall for. She never told Kakashi how she felt because the two of them were so close. She didn't want to ruin their friendship or make things awkward between them.

...

"Hey [name], I have something for you. Come with me."

Kakashi laced his fingers with [name]'s, causing her to blush slightly. Being friends, Kakashi and [name] held hands often, but it was never like this. His hand was gentle this time around. She realised her hand fit perfectly into his, all the more reason to fall farther. Kakashi took her to a secluded trail, untouched by human footprints. The bare trees loomed over them, their suits of snow shimmering in the afternoon sun. Little blue birds fluttered from branch to branch overhead, singing their happy songs. [Name] was enchanted by the scenery. She looked around, viewing the tranquil river, snow-covered rocks, a serene picnic setting.

Wait, a picnic?
