Genya and Sanemi likes to play with Nezuko. Genya, instead of seeing her as a "girl" and panic, he sees her as a little sister and messes around with her like dumb children.
He often allows Nezuko to tie his hair up in weird styles, like pigtails or palm trees, and just overall a very loving older brother like Tanjiro.
This behaviour stems from the fact that he's unable to protect his little siblings. He felt guilty because he wasn't late to the scene like Sanemi was, but he was there, and he wasn't able to do anything.
