Shinobu reminds Inosuke of his mother. Even though he's never really seen her face properly, he can feel some sort of motherly energy from Shinobu. But he will never admit that either.
When Shinobu died, he was mad. But what made him completely break down afterwards is the fact that both of his mother (Kotoha and Shinobu) were killed off by the same demon, while he was too weak to save them before they died.
