The howling of the wind passed through the trees near the cliff's peak. Rain and thunder sound out from every direction; the occasional lightning bolt illuminating the rocky shore that sat a foot of the edge at the precipice.

The waves crashed against the face of the bluff, water soared over the cliff top, slightly soaking everything that was near. A cellphone rings through the storm, signaling the presence of a young adolescent. She ripped her phone out of her pocket and accepted the call.

"What?!"

"You're mad, just come back and we'll talk about it."

"I'm not mad Talon, I just —— I'm done with it. With you, her, the school. Everything."

"Maya, where are you right now?"

"It doesn't matter."

"Yes it does, we need to talk about us."

"Don't you get it? There is no us, you threw it away. I hope you're happy."

Tears started to fall out of her eyes; Maya walked closer to the edge of the cliff, the two salt-waters mix together.

"She doesn't mean anything, you're the one I love. Thora is just a friend."

"I don't care if you say you're just friends, you don't talk to an ex as just friends. You know everything that she did to me and you still don't care. All you do is chase after her, I don't want to be stupid anymore."

Maya's voice vibrated just barely over a whisper. "You don't know how much it hurts."

"It wasn't like that..."

"Then how was it, I caught you and your friend making out." Silence filled the line. "That's what I thought, just.... leave me alone."

Maya let her phone plummet to the ground, it went over the edge and made it's way to the rocks below. The sadness within her to panic as she gazed at the inundation of water that rushed toward her; the water retreated with Maya in its clutches.

Her screams were muffled as the water drew itself in, sweeping Maya out into open sea. She struggled to swim up to the surface, the pressure and weight of the ocean's depth making her immobile. She fought for breath, bringing a profusion of water into her lungs.

Brown eyes flutter shut as she sank to the ocean floor. The flash of the lightning set blue scales aglow headed in the direction of Maya's diminishing figure.

The storm calmed as the clouds above parted, revealing the gleaming moon, casting it's light on the now peaceful sea.
