Among The Alone

It has been a while since I have been with someone.
That is why you remind me I'm lonely.

Though I could never be with you,
I appreciate the lesson you gave me.

I appreciate the stones that are tied to my legs,
They will not let me chase someone.
They keep me in place,
Preventing me from moving in this world around me.

So I watch the fast pace shifting time.
The people existing to be noticed.

Greeting and leaving others.
A couples holding the hand of their lover that they will one day lose.
Blaring sirens of a cop car that pulled over a driver who just got their license.
A boy crying because he let go of his balloon.
A girl talking to her imaginary friend.
People rushing in suits to catch their next meeting.
Dogs barking at the flying birds they can never catch.
A mother nursing her child, with no one there to support her.
And the trees begging us to just stop...to open our eyes; to listen.

Then there is me. Standing in the eye of the storm, unnoticed.
But that is fine, because the weight that has tied me down, has also given a gift.

To watch the humans, though together, they are alone.

So when I am reminded I am lonely
I am reminded...that so is everyone else.
