Chapter 182: Rendezvous with the Hairy Bear

Start from the beginning

“As for the fifth member, An, how about I get you someone?” Lu Feng was seated to Chen An’s left. For him, it was a piece of cake to find someone who played basketball; actually, it would not be difficult to get a star player to come.

With Chen Yang and Lu Feng sitting like two guardians to each side, Chen An sat in the middle like the empress dowager and slowly chewed on his rice. Then he swallowed and said: “No need. I have someone in mind.”

Chen An of course knew if he left it to Lu Feng, the latter would find him a good player. But the result of the match was not the only thing that mattered.

Chen Yang and Lu Feng heard Chen An’s words and exchanged a look. The two had fought each other like they were bent on demolishing each other, but at this moment, each knew they were on the same boat.

Chen Yang was the first to speak. He carefully probed: “you mean…that dumb bear?”

“Of course not.” Chen An grinned. He did put Ivanov on his list at the very beginning---his black list.

“If Ivanov joins us, they will say we have outside help.” Chen An stated his reason, not a really convincing one, though.

But why would the Old Fox care what others said? If he did, he would not ask Lu Feng to join them.

Lu Feng and Chen Yang were not sure why Chen An ruled Ivanov out; it was nonetheless good news for them. If it were up to them, he should never appear before Chen An, ever again.

While they ate, Wang Li’s phone rang. She picked it up and saw the caller: the nerd.

Wang Li excused herself and hurried to the balcony to answer the call. Frightened sobs came from the other side, “Wang Li! The tall boy, he…”

“Slow down. What happened to him? Tell me, where are you?” Wang Li got a fright, what was wrong?

Half an hour later, at the downtown hospital.

“Someone broke his leg. It’s lucky that he was brought here on time. Doctor says it will heal, but that will take some time. He won’t be able to move around much in the following months. Not if he wants to keep his leg.”

Chen Yang came out of the ward, livid with bottled up anger. As soon as they got the call, Chen An, along with the others, drove to where the tall boy was and brought him to the nearest hospital.

“An?” Lu Feng touched Chen An’s hand and pulled on it gently in concern. Chen An leaned against the wall in silence. Lu Feng would be much more relieved if Chen An shouted or expressed his feelings in some way, but right now, there was not a single trace of emotion on Chen An’s face. This was much worse.

It indicated that Chen An was angry. Zhao Ziliang had finally angered Chen An.

“I want the boy to be transferred tomorrow to the best orthopedic hospital in the city. The fees are on me.” Chen An stated in a flat tone to Wang Li, “Leave things back home for a few days. You can stay here with the nerd, and take care of him.”

“Uncle Chen, the team…” Wang Li said with worry written on her face.

Now they only had three players. She didn’t really think Zhao Ziliang was in any way capable of harming Chen An, but would they still be able to play the game?

Chen An put on a half-smile, patted Wang Li gently on the shoulder and comforted her: “don’t worry, I know what to do. You just take good care of the tall boy.”

When they returned home from the hospital, the dishes on the table were already cold. And Chen An had lost his appetite.

Cheng Yang and Lu Feng exchanged a look when they saw Chen An standing on the balcony alone. They have not turned into each other’s fans all of a sudden. That being said, each was the only one for the each to talk to right now.

“If it was before, An would have Zhao Ziliang disappeared much earlier.” Lu Feng opened up.

Did they feel powerless? A little bit. They would not look twice at scums like Zhao Ziliang if it was before. Yet now they had to sit on the receiving end of his dirty tricks even if Lu Feng could have him gotten rid of with the snap of a finger.

The thing was, Chen An was not who he had been before.

Chen An’s resolution to change could be glimpsed from his determination to extract the Group from their previous business.

What really bothered Lu Feng was not how to deal with Zhao Ziliang; it was whether dealing with him could bring Chen An back to the past.

“An was not happy before, though he had everything.” Lu Feng watched the man’s silhouette and thought of the Chen An he saw today in the gym---a P.E. teacher, an ordinary person, in an ordinary gym, talking and laughing with a group of students. That Chen An was happier than all the time that he was a crime lord.

Chen Yang sat down: “I know what to do.”

“What?” Lu Feng glanced at the young man, who was the closest person to Chen An since his rebirth.

If Chen Yang begrudged Lu Feng’s time with Chen An, how could Lu Feng not feel jealous when Chen Yang stole Chen An’s attention?

“I won’t touch him, that Zhao Ziliang. But if he’s so afraid to lose, we will beat him, on the court, through and through.”

Chen Yang grinned. That dirt bag could laugh all he liked, for now. In the match next month, Chen Yang would show him the consequence of picking the wrong fight.

On the balcony, Chen An took out his phone and was editing a text, when fireworks suddenly exploded before him, lighting up the night sky of the Bund.

Chen An took a nonchalant look and wondered: it was not holiday season, why fireworks?

Then he saw the pattern formed, and his mouth twitched.

Baby, how could you blacklist me!

Meanwhile, a picture was cast on the surface of the building opposite Chen An’s balcony: a cute cartoon polar bear, singing and dancing in front of a coy fox.

With a bouquet of roses in hand, the hairy bear sang horrible lines such as “Oh, oh, oh, my sweetheart! Oh, oh, oh, my little fox!”, which gave Chen An the urge to punch him.
