Just another day at Mama's Cita bakery but today was special it's Saturday and I am about to see her smile again. I will never forget the day I first saw her come in, the aura around her was different from anyone else I ever encountered before. Her presence was strong but her smile had a warmth to it while her eyes were dark and mysteries. She always came in at the same time every Saturday morning. Same coffee too "one ice mocha no whip" but sometimes she likes to mix it up with a chai tea latte. However, someone as beautiful as her would never notice someone like me.
I sigh deeply trying to shake the negative thoughts from my mind. I quickly grabbed the last bit of pastries from the tray behind so I could finish stocking the freshly baked pastries for this morning rush. As I grabbed the tray from behind me I quickly glanced up one more time from the glass display to see her setting up her computer laughing away with her friend. I melted into the tray trying to relax my heartbeat from looking at her bright smile. "one... two... three" I took a deep breath in and stood up before rushing into the back.
"Amy where have you been?! The croissants are almost ready to be rolled up!" Chef Erin yelled at me from across the kitchen as she continued to frost the three-layered wedding cake for tomorrow's client.
"Coming! I was just making sure all the pastries were looking good." I quickly made my way to the wooden table where I spotted Jane glanced at me with a big smirk followed by a little giggle as she slowly made her way towards me.
"So how was your daily dose today?" She snickered to me softly so no one else would hear. The tip of my ears started to feel hot and I just knew they were turning red from excitement.
"Ooo gosh Jane you should have seen her today!" I tried my hardest not to let my excitement overcome me with Chef right across the room but it was written all over my grinning face.
"She had these black skinny jeans on with a simple white shirt that tied in well with her red and white vans. But let's not forget..."
Jane cut me off with a big eye roll followed by a smirk. "Ok ok I get it you're crushing hard on her, but why haven't you talked to her yet? It's been almost two months now. Your kind of going into stalker mode." Jane giggled and started to cut the croissants into triangles so we could start rolling them out.
I pulled one of the triangle dough in front and slowly started to roll it up till it made the perfect looking croissant. Slowly coming into my thoughts I wondered if she did notice me or even saw me glancing her way. I paused for a moment to calm my mind so I could focus on making each one of these croissants as perfect as they could be. As I looked up at Jane I sigh a bit
"I don't know. I don't really think she would take any interest in me, besides I rather just look from afar, than get hurt." The look on Jane's face sent the hairs on my arm up and I could tell if Chef wasn't across the room she would have thrown a piece of scrap dough at my face for my stupidity.
"Amy listen I know you don't have a lot of confidence but you're an amazing catch and anyone that was with you would be so lucky to have you." She slowly lightening up her glare at me
"Thank Jane, that's why you're my bestie" I smiled at her, and deep down I knew she was right but I just couldn't shake off the feeling of rejection. Not again at least.
We both just smiled at each other and then continued to roll up the croissant.
Before we knew it we had only a couple of hours left before our shift was over. I snuck my way out of the kitchen to take a sneak peek to see if "She" was still there. I slowly peeked my head around the corner to see if she or even her belonging was still around but she was gone. My heart slowly sank with sadness as I slowly made my way back to the kitchen to finish up the last bit of work we had before we could pack it up and go home.
