In May 1940, in the midst of the Second World War, a young pilot named Billy Fiske flees his squadron and makes his way over the area known as the Bermuda Triangle. A flash of light knocks his plane off course and drags him down into the ocean. Eighty years later, in 2020, a small boat crewed by Andy, his sister Nic and their friend Matthew, encounters a viscious storm. The Doctor and Graham arrive in the TARDIS, but just as they do, a flash of light appears again and drags them overboard into the sea. Finding themselves transported to a mysterious cave, the team make their way up through cavernous tunnels and the corridors of a spaceship. When the Doctor and Andy are kidnipped, however, Graham and Nic climb upwards to the surface, reaching a vast desert landscape. At it's heart is an alien city, and the two realise they must break in. Meanwhile, the Doctor and Andy are placed behind bars and meet Billy Fiske, now imprisoned alongside them in another cell. He explains that the creatures are building some kind of weapon, but before he can finish, a group of hooded figures enter the room. The one stood at the front drops their hood and takes off their helmet, revealing himself to be Commander Stark of the Sontarans.
