ℝ𝕌ℕℕ𝔼ℝ: 𝔸 ℕ𝕖𝕨𝕥 𝔽𝕒𝕟𝕗𝕚𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟

𝟎𝟑. 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬

We walked over to where all of the other gladers were gathered around a huge bonfire Newt told me that he was going to grab some drinks for us so I told him I was going to find a place for us to sit.  I quickly found an unoccupied log and leant my back on the backside of it looking at the maze's walls. I heard someone come up beside me and I looked over to see Newt had gotten the both of us drinks so I thanked him as he gave me mine. We sat there silently for a bit drinking before something popped into my head. "Casey, my name is Casey." I quickly sat up and looked at Newt who looked slightly startled at me sitting up so quickly. I told him I remembered my name and told him it was Casey and he told me that he was happy I had remembered and that I had a pretty name, which made me blush. After a while of talking about how our day had been Newt asked me if I wanted to join the other gladers. I said sure and we headed back to join everyone else. I saw one guy with the weirdest eyebrows I had ever seen and asked Newt who he was. Newt told me that his name was Gally and that he was a little hot headed at times but overall a pretty nice guy as long as you didn't get on his bad side. I nodded and Minho came up to us to introduce me to some of the others.  I met some of the other runners and found out that Minho was the keeper of the runners which meant he was the one that decided if someone was allowed to be a runner or not. Alby asked Newt to talk so the two of them left and I asked Minho more about being a runner. He said that if I wanted to be a runner that I would have to prove to him that I was smart and fast enough to be able to run in the maze. I asked him if I could try out for being a runner the next day and Minho agreed. I asked him not to tell Newt though because I knew he didn't want me to become a runner and Minho agreed but he said that if I became a runner that I would have to tell him eventually. I told him I would when the time came and said goodbye to him before rejoining Newt and Alby. They were standing a little ways away from everyone else and talking in hushed voices but I could tell something was up by the way Newt and Alby looked angry. I decided to instead give them their space and went over to the rest of the gladers. Gally was fighting one of the other gladers in the ring and everyone was laughing about it.  I walked back over to Minho and asked him to explain what the point of the fight ring was and he explained the rules. Stay in the circle for as long as possible as Gally tries to push you out. Gally finally won and asked if there were any challengers. Everyone remained silent but I said I wanted to. Minho gasped and told me that I didn't but I walked into the ring anyways. I looked over and saw Newt looking shocked and worried walking towards me. Gally started trying to push me but I held my ground with my feet planted firmly on the ground and ended up wrestling Gally. After a while of him struggling to push me out I stepped to the side and watched as Gally himself ended up out of the ring. Everyone started laughing and Gally was mad at first once he got up but eventually laughed and shook my hand telling me that I did pretty good for a greenie. I thanked him and stepped out of the ring to be met by Minho who gave me a high five and told me that I did awesomely due to no one else being able to get Gally out of the ring at all. I thanked him for the compliment and walked out of the circle of cheering guys looking for Newt. I walked around and couldn't find him anywhere so I decided to lie down in the grass and stare up at the sky. There wasn't that much to see other than the small stars up in the sky. Suddenly something fell over me and I heard someone grunting before we both sat up only to realize that Newt and I were looking at each other as we burst out laughing. We ended up talking and I told him about winning the fight against Gally, although over time I realized that Newt was most definitely drunk. We ended up talking for a little while longer until we realized that everyone else had gone to bed. So I stood up and helped Newt up before both of us walked back to the bunks. I said goodnight to him and he replied with a very groggy goodnight as well. I turned over in my hammock and went to sleep
