{[<Chapter 1>]}
It was dark and ominous... That hall. A large tunnel with enormous brick walls, blocked by an even bigger gate. The brick hall had several doors and openings on the sides, seemingly leading to other rooms.. Though it was hard to see through the shadows, lurking like monsters and creeping towards the bright daylight. The path leading to this gate had been made out of gravel, a rough, unnaturally straight line down the pure grass hills, leading to their home. The gravel way ended abruptly to flow into a neatly placed pavement floor, a few meters away from the ginormous fence..
There in front of it, gripping the bars, was a small boy.. He looked about 8 years old and had chocolate brown hair with ends that faded into a scarlet red. His wardrobe was simple: white pants and flannel, but a red sweatshirt wrapped over his chest to look like a fort of sash.
The boy huffed, seemingly annoyed, as he stared into the dark hall behind the bars.
"I don't get it! Why won't dad let us out.. What could be so dangerous out there? .. We're old enough.." He pouted, looking around before his gaze fell upon another boy next to him.
"Roman, you are overthinking this.. Dad is keeping us safe, " he mumbled in a quite monotone voice, without looking up from the book he was reading. While leaning his back against the iron gate. "I still don't get it!" the boy named Roman whined, rolling his eyes while crossing his arms over his chest, stubbornly.
The other groaned softly and pushed up his glasses. "Don't act like that.. If you're old enough, than why don't you just ask Dad.. I'm sure he'll let you" sarcasm dripped from his voice as he shot his hand through his hair, shutting his book and turning around to stare down the tunnel..
"Logan...?"
"Yes?" Logan answered, absent-mindedly.
"What do you wanna do when we get to go out..?" Roman asked softly, his wide, bright blue eyes scanning around the darkness, as if hoping to see something cool...
The other didn't react at first before humming softly and looking away. "I want to see a library... A big one" Logan responded eventually, looking up at Roman with a slight smile tugging at his lips. "You?"
"I wanna find a dragon!" Roman erupted, laughing happily as he let go of the bars, his squeaky voice echoing slightly through the dark space. The boy had never let go of his wild imagination, and probably never would.
Logan held his book to his chest, beginning to walk back to the house on the grass hil, taking note of the bright, blue sky above him and his friend while Roman burst into a song they had heard 'dad' sing a few times..
Logan sighed softly.
"I wonder what the gate is protecting us from.."
