In the heart of Gusu, Lan Zhan sat next to his husband of many years silent tears running down his face.
"D-Don't cry Lan Zhan." Wei Ying held a small smile through the pain and tightened his grip on Lan Zhan's hand. "You will be fine. We will find each other again." Lan Zhan couldn't hold in the sob that escaped his lips as he kissed Wei Ying's hand over and over again praying for more time.
"P-P-Please don't-t talk like. . .that." Wei Ying sighed and raised his other shaky hand and pointed towards the guqin.
"Play Wangji. I want to hear it." Lan Zhan stared at the instrument and nodded wiping away the excess tears.
"Please listen, Wei Ying." Wei Ying nodded and placed his hand back over his bleeding mid section. His color was getting worse and worse, but he held on for Lan Zhan.
Wei Ying heard the calming sounds of Lan Zhan's playing and sighed in peace letting the pain take him under just a bit faster.
Lan Zhan's fingers twitched feeling Wei Ying's life force leaving his body.
"Don't stop. . .Lan Zhan." Wei Ying looked over to Lan Zhan hearing the soft sobs before continuing. 'Forgive me, Lan Zhan. We said we'd be together forever. We'll find each other again. I swear.'
Lan Zhan kept playing as he could hear Wei Ying's breathing fade. Lan Zhan stayed there for a few more hours playing continuously. Tear streaks could be found on his face, and all he could do was try to wipe them away to no avail.
After he finished, Lan Zhan stood up and sat down next to Wei Ying. His pale face was left with a small smile on it. "Goodbye, Wei Ying." Lan Zhan brushed the black hair out of his face and smiled. "We will see each other again."
