There's nothing more heart-wrenching than seeing your ex at the club.
Flashing multi-coloured lights illuminate his face like a spotlight as he loses himself on the dancefloor. There's no doubt that he's having the time of his life.
He looks better - less angry-looking - with his hair done up. Dressed in dark colours with that filthy, good-looking smile of his plastered on his face.
Renjun has always loved the thrum of loud music, it's beat vibrating in his chest. Barely hearing anyone over it, the feeling of bodies grinding against his and the thin sweat that covers his skin, blood pumping through his veins - the only things he can feel.
You're at the bar now, sipping on your drink but you haven't turned away, unable to strip your gaze from his body. His eyes are closed, head thrashing in time with the beat, arms in the air.
Always the party animal.
But you didn't expect to see him in this club of all places. The place where you were known to frequent most weekends and you know Renjun would never forget that - this is where you both first met after all. At the very place you were standing actually, here at the bar where you're now watching this girl approach him.
She begins to grind against the front of him, Renjun's hands grasping her hips as he welcomes the friction and you glower at the way he's biting his lip.
You hate this feeling. Envy rising to bubble at your chest and you drop your glass onto the bar harder than you intended, spooking the people around you.
You try not to pity yourself.
You've been doing so well since the breakup - a messy, disastrous thing - but, yet again, what wasn't when it came to the both of you?
So passionate, headstrong and the very idea of losing to someone else was unbearable. Two red-hot flames that refused to thrive together and you both had burned until every piece of each other turned into ashes.
There was nothing left and leaving felt so lonely because you were never apart - never not needing each other.
It's been a year since then, never crossing paths or even a call. Both too stubborn and you had forgotten him for a few months now. But you can't shake off the feeling that he's here for a reason, at the place you both first met where the chances of bumping into you are sky-high.
What does he want?
You think you don't care except now you're staring at them grinding and you yearn for those hands to be on you instead.
Downing the rest of your glass, you let liquid courage take control of your next steps, letting them lead you closer to him.
It's easy to slip through the crowd, blending in with ease as you make your way to the middle. Renjun is suddenly closer now, electricity winding up your body and sparking when you think he spots you.
Somebody presses up against you from behind and you smirk, letting their foreign fingers attach to your waist. The song changes to something slower, the bass still strong and loud in your ears and you let yourself succumb to the rhythm.
Swinging your hips against the stranger, their hot breath on your neck as you close your eyes. You're dancing the last of your nerves away until they're all gone, smothered by alcohol and the breath on your neck is slowly becoming so hot.
Opening your eyes again, they easily snatch on Renjun's figure, just one body separating the two of you. The barrier moves out of the way, to your convenience, and suddenly he's so up close you almost forget how to breathe.
