chapter one.

“What’s with you today, Kid?” Giriboy said with amusement in his voice while flapping his legs around in the tall salon stool.

Wonjae had asked Giriboy for help with his appearance, which was unprecedented since this kid hardly cared about what he looked like. Yes, he might be one of the trendiest fashionistas among the hip hop industry, but that’s his clothing, not his face. He had always had his hair long and dishevelled, occasionally he would put on nose piercing. Simply he just didn’t really care much. But today was different.

Literally at 3 this morning, Giriboy was bombarded with texts insisting him to come with the younger to the salon, explaining that Wonjae wanted to change his appearance. It was so late (or should he say so early) that he couldn’t remember most of the texts, but he could recall clearly one particular phrase - “to appeal to the idol's’ eyes”.

As a nice hyung Giriboy is, he helped Wonjae, starting off with trimming that long hair…

Yeah that’s it.

Honestly what’s wrong with the kid himself is just that untidy hair, at least for the older. And probably man fringe to cover the forehead to make him look more… endearing since rappers tend to have strong, surly appearance. One can appeal to the eyes as simple as being tidy. Take him as an example.

“Hyung… are you sure I’ll look better with my hair cut?” Wonjae doubted.

“Trust your hyung, Milli.” He nodded firmly.

“Should I dye back to black?” Wonjae bit his lower lip nervously at the sight of the scissors snapping his hair off.

“Not necessary. If you cutting your signature long hair off, then better keep the color. Going black will make you generic, you think idols will notice you like that?”

He had a point, Wonjae gotta admit.

“After this, we go get you one of those round-framed clear glasses. You gonna look good.”

Wonjae stopped asking questions and fully placed his trust into his hyung, and the guy tugging at his hair while snapping the scissors nonstop behind him.

“Yah, tell me.” Giriboy leaned closer.

“What?”

“Don’t act dumb. Who’s she?”

One don’t just simply change appearance for nothing, nor worry too much about it, particularly for a male rapper. Wonjae’s pupils dilated shakily.

“Tell me. I might know her, I might even help you. You know my circle of friends in the industry.” Having the cape on to avoid hair falling onto his body, Wonjae couldn’t use his phone, but he managed to take it out of his pocket and slipped it into Giriboy’s hand.

As close as they are, Giriboy easily opened the password. The background picture caught his eyes immediately. A girl with long, wavy, black hair, the typical hairstyle every guy would fall for, and that face. He knew who she was.

“I thought you wanted a girlfriend who knew nothing about hip hop?” He reminded the younger

“I thought you wanted a girlfriend who knew nothing about hip hop?” He reminded the younger. Wonjae once admitted on air he would choose a girlfriend who knew nothing about hip hop, other than the one who knew it all. But that photo he saw, that girl knew a lot.

“This girl can legitly step on you with her talents you know? You have eyes on a tough one here, Milli.” Giriboy shook his head.

“Do you know her, hyung?”

“It’s been a long time since we last talked though. Before her debut with (G)I-DLE, she went on Mnet shows like Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar, so it’s easy to spot her there. I was there all the time also, doing Show Me The Money and High School Rappers, so I saw her a lot. We even talked about music and wrote songs together. Remember that song I released featuring you, Used, she co-composed it with me, but didn’t want any credit. I felt so bad but she kept on insisting to cross out her name.”

At this point, everyone has already found out who the girl is. (G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon.

“Why all of sudden you get interested in her?”

“Well… I saw her at Mnet the other day and…” He paused.

“Love at first sight?” Giriboy joked and laughed his signature laugh. But with the look on Wonjae’s face, he could tell he was right.

“I don’t know man. I just saw her and I froze at the spot. It’s just… something about her that really attracts me.”

“You want her number?”

“No, I don’t want to approach her that way. Hyung, can you like invite her when we hang out, then I can try to talk to her.”

Giriboy wanted to mess around with his younger, but the pleading look in the kid’s eyes, he just couldn’t.

“Alright. For you, I’ll try. But no promise though. She has been pretty occupied with her idol life.”

“Do you think she might despise me?”

“Because?”

“Just because,” Wonjae shrugged, then added, “ ‘Cause I’m not that good-looking…”

“She’s not that type of person. She doesn’t even care about her own appearance. If we were to talk about despising, it should be YOU who might despise her.”

“Why would you think that?” He frowned.

“C’mon,” Giriboy raised his eyebrow as if the reason was as clear as night and day, “You are a rapper. She’s an idol rapper.”

“She’s way too good to be addressed as an idol rapper.”

“Clearly.”
