TW: misgendering, slight dysphoria.

"I'm sorry, you got how much?" Roman's mother turned to look at him in shock. They were in the kitchen and Roman was leaning against the doorframe, cheque in hand. He'd just been payed a large amount of money from the production he'd starred in.

Roman smiled proudly and turned to look at his brother who had just walked in, obviously wondering what all the shouting was about. "Let's just say, with all the money I've saved up, I'm able to move out." Roman once again looked at his brother Remus who was now sat on the counter. "And you can come too!"

Remus' eyes widened as he hopped off the counter. "You mean it?" He had to check, good things rarely happened to him.

"Of course, Rem!" Roman chuckled and looked over at his mother. "The house I'm looking at has six bedrooms, so I was thinking we could find some more people, y'know who need somewhere to stay, we could make friends!"

Their mother smiled at that idea, although she was a little worried at the thought of strangers but her kids were grown up now, she could trust them. "That's a wonderful idea, Roman, it's so nice of you that you're letting your si- brother move in with you as well." She stopped herself as to not mis-gender Remus. He came out as trans in his teens but she still struggled sometimes, even after he had all his surgery.

Remus smiled slightly as she corrected herself but something still hurt. He passed, didn't he? Noticing the look on his brothers face, Roman chirped up in his usual eccentric tone. "All I need to do is pay, I have everything else covered, Remus, I need you to help me find four other people who would like to live with us."

Remus nodded and looked at his phone, a message from his coworker, Virgil. "I gotta go to work, text me if ya need anythin, which I doubt." He grabbed his back and caught the apple that was yeeted at his head by Roman before leaving the house.

"I think you upset him." Roman mumbled, looking up at his mother who was waving at Remus through the window. "Did I?" She turned around and looked at Roman, completely oblivious. "Even though you corrected yourself, I guess it still hurts him a lil bit." Roman replied, placing the cheque in his wallet, ready to go. "I'll apologise later, he should know by now that it was just a mistake."

He nodded and walked upstairs, hiding the fact that his mothers tone and attitude annoyed him. She didn't even try until Remus was out for over two years. Hell, she only payed towards his surgery because both him and Remus begged her to. He'd practically raised his younger twin brother, in their mothers eyes, she'd still raised a son and a daughter.

This could be a new start! He and Remus could be out of here. One more phone call, money being payed, their stuff being moved, and they'd be free.

The feeling of independence that Roman had always clung onto, would soon be his and he would not dream of doing it without Remus. His brother.
