Chapter 2
It's been five years since that day. I'm twenty-two now. And I've been on the move ever since. Just me and my dog Sniper, who I found the day I left. I was lucky I did too. I don't think I'd survive on my own, mentally of course. I had two pistols holstered at my hips, a sniper rifle on my back and an auto shot-gun in my hands.
Over the years I've gotten experienced with the war. Well, you need to learn fast and if you don't, you're already dead. I've had to do a lot of things that I'm not really proud of, but that's done with.
Anyway, back to the present. I was headed home. My real home. I owe it my family that much, especially Tommy. If it wasn't for him I would've sat there until some soldiers came and just shot me on sight. It's took a few days to get back from where I was, but I'm finally in recognizably territory. Yes, it should just be a few more miles...
"Don't move." A voice said from somewhere in the woods.
I froze. How had I been so careless? He didn't sound like a soldier though. Could be one of those gorilla fighters.
"Please. Don't do this." I started to beg.
There was an unbearable silence.
"Alex?" the voice asked.
I spun around to face the trees. A dark figure emerged from the darkness. I had to squint to make out who it was. It was Ty. Ty was one of my best friends. I was so happy to see him that I almost broke down on the spot. When I finally got my legs to move I ran over to him and threw my arms around him. We stayed like that for a while until he started taking me back to his camp.
"I thought you were dead." he spoke softly.
"Same goes for you. What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Me and a few others actually live out here. What are you doing back? You looked like you were coming from out of town."
"Yeah, I've been moving around quite a bit, but I'm back for my family. I was actually on my way now."
he just looked at me like I was speaking a different language. "Yeah, I'm sorry about that, but your house has kind of been taken over by the enemy." he told me.
I stopped walking. So did he.
"What?" I asked.
He can't be serious can he? He nodded
"Yours was one of the first houses to be taken over." he said a little sadly.
"Well" I said pulling out my pistols and heading the other way. "I better get going."
he must have thought I was crazy. The look on his face told it all.
"You can't be serious. Alex" he said grabbing my arm.
"Let me go Ty. I owe them this much." I said as I pulled away from his grasp.
As I continued walking he called out to me
"They wouldn't want you to kill yourself cause of it."
I ignored him and kept walking. I thought it was best to leave Sniper in the woods. I never realized how lonely it was by myself. I pushed those thoughts aside and focused on the task ahead of me. When I reached the backyard I had plenty time to think of a strategy. There was a balcony that led to my room on the second floor. There was a fencing on the side of the house that made it easy access. I remember years ago I would always sneak out then ended up locking myself out at 3am. After many failed attempts I finally managed to get the hang of lock picking.
